Any good books?

Recommended Posts

Anyone who knows me knows I am an avid book collector on anything related to hunting, I have 6 Frain books and without exception they are all shite. Does the guy actually get out as I have never seen a photo of his dogs working? His book on the Patterdale terrier shows he has never kept the breed as he confuses them with fells/lakelands and the biggest joke is the drawings he has the audacity to add his signature too............

Oh that bad lol, well I hate not finishing things so I will read on, though you say they are bad you still read six of them lol. As this thread was about what too read and not what not to read, what would you recommend Simoman as with the book collection I would say you are the one to ask?

I'm a glutton for punishment, had them bought for me. As I mentioned earlier in the thread Harcombe/Darcy and Chapman are the way to go, very well written........

dave harcombes most recent book "work them hard" is the best book ever written on terriers and i think he has lifted the bar too high for any other author to beat. its all you need to read to understand terrierwork and what is expected of them at the highest standard. congrats to dave.

wats up with frain? neva read a book of his jus askin ?

Read in one of frain's books: "It's not hard to tell if your terrier has gone to ground on rabbit rather than fox, and it can be called out if it does"

Just started "World of the Working Terrier" by Harcombe, enjoying it.

Whats up with evryone on the Frain situation, im reading "The Middleton Strain of Working Terrier" by Sean Frain at the moment and so far so good, only a short way through but a good read so far.

Harry Potter is a good read too, but it doesn't tell you much about terriers!.

I've never been big into reading terrier books, but I have read some of 'work them hard treat them like heroes' and it was very good.

New Nick Stevens book isn't as good as has been stated, according to a friend who has read it cover to cover...

You won't go wrong with a Harcomb book.

I'd have to disagree with you on the new Stevens book, its a cracking read and a good insight into the mans line of terriers, it's definitly up there with Harcombe's book 'Work Them Hard...' IMO...

Have to agree to disagree on that one then.

As I said, ive not read it. My mate says it is a decent book if you like reading about breeding terriers and hunt terrier work etc.
