i think there is too much expectation from what people want from their dogs, just look at the topics,4 out of five hares, how big a bag in one night, you know feckall unless you,ve been on big lands,it,s all alot of shite and can,t be arsed with it. :wallbash:

some people exspect to much, and the dogs get passed from pillar to post.alot of thesedogs would probably make good allround lurchers if time and patience was used in training them.not having ago at the coursing men/women, :notworthy: i enjoy a good chase, just my opinion.

I keep collie/greyhound-deerhound/greyhound types. True allrounders,do a bit of everything. Looked about for years for this type to line my bitch[found a dog by accident]. I only breed a litter to replace the old bitch, she had 11 pups, i left her with five, 2 for myself[3 where ordered, two weeks before they where due to go he cocked on them-messer].

It seems to me the FUN is gone from hunting with most people,HUNTING WAS MEANT TO BE FUN,as well as a way of carrying out effiecent pest control.I have Salukis as well as a kelpie, and I dont care if it can kill 8 out of 8 or not, once it tries its best and catches a decent % of its quarry then Im happy. This buisness it seems to me has goten very serious, too much emphasis on how many in one night etc.I enjoy reading about good bags of varied game but given a chance and in the right hands most dogs can become decent enough hunting companions.I know of a few blokes that have a different dog every 6 months,I just cant understand it personally.Natacc surely if you buy a pup from decent lines, and I bought dogs from decent stuff off of this site, you turn it into whatever you want,or are your expectations that high there isnt a dog born yet to meet yer standard  Im not critisising but its not too hard to get a fairly decent dog.

And to feed yourself and your family. . . . .

Your right though, the hunting world is now a very sad one. We have been flooded with ignorant people, aggressive people . . . people doing it for all the wrong reasons. They are not hunters, not part of the countryside. . . . they bring shame on all of us. Most of them are children or men with the minds of children and are none too bright. They want a machine, a numbers machine, a killing machine. You hear shit on here 'i'm off to kill some stuff tonight', 'we are the killing crew', 'i've had loads of dogs . . . . in 2 years' it goes on. Many many of the people who keep running dogs just dont have the ability to sync and bond with an animal, to see the beauty in watching your dog work regardless of the bag, rather than just counting and thinking about what your going to tell your mates. . . . no wait you dont have to tell them anything, all 6 of them with their 12 dogs are there in the field with you.

Before all this. . . . one man, one dog. . . . . folk rarely told anyone what the dog caught. .. . . it was a secret between man and beast and as long as it was enough to feed the kids. . . thats what mattered.

Spot on Ideation, its all about bragging now.a lot of the peolpe dont understand how to let a dog do his own thing, learn for itself with a little input from its owner. Its all macho bullsh+t now.A lot glorify killing their prey, which it was never about in the first place.Yeah to be a sucessfull hunter you must kill but not go and brag about it in the pub.In the past hunting was a way of feeding yourself, your family and your friends/neighbours.You took what youd need and then return when necessary again.I heard of a well known lamping man from our side boasting of killing 60+ rabbits in one night and he brought back 20.He left the rest in the ditch,I thought ''GOD HELP US ALL''I dont know maybe im just a crank

There are plenty of good dogs around, that are able to deal with what comes along. It just takes a bit of effort to find them, personally i would rather find a genuine hunting lad,who is breeding a litter from a bitch who has served him well, and who has found the best dog available,to replace the bitch.Than go looking for one of the legends. This site is a bit of fun, good for a bit of banter, but i feel sorry for beginers, who must feel there dogs are useless, because it cannot take 4 foxs every night,or five out of five hares, infact it probally couldnt even turn a fen hare, and if it hasnt got bull blood, minshaw breed,or some other big name, its not even worth taking the dog out.The type of dog you are looking for are out there but you will not find the lads that have them shouting about them,if that was there nature they wouldnt keep that type of dog.
