BooMster 11
Patterdale Terrier! WTF??? Have you read the bit about not going to ground? Or is thart a wind up? WTF??? You said beddy??? Yes i have read it. Have you heard of recall? I owned a spot on Patterdale that never actually went to ground and if it did, he returned to my call every time. I've known all kind of Terriers that go to ground though, including patts and beddys. Some that were lost for days on end too. I've witnessed spaniels run off, A dog is what you make it. Put the effort into any dog and you will get rewards... Loads of people on this forum will advise all types of breads. Tbh it sounds like a Spaniel type of dog would suit you. Good Luck! Guest fence_hopper
Right lads, Im thinking about getting a little bushing bitch to work along side my lurcher bitch. Iv been thinking about allsorts of different breeds. Basically i want a dog that will hunt through any cover moving rabbits (and anything else) for the lurcher. I was thinking about a larger type terrier such as a Bedlington. Iv been thinking about Spaniels too!!! Cocker, springer or sprocker? (stupid name that) and even a Tekel! What i dont want is a dog that will go nose down and set off on a line not to be seen for hours, like wise i dont want a earth dog type because i dont want to have to dig to it.... Also i dont have millions to spend so it probably rules out the pedgrees (to be fair they are wasted on me anyway) Can any one make a suggestion? Id like to hear from people who work dogs in a similar fashion please. Or if anyone knows of any likely litters, Cheers Dave, beagul russel Have you had one? Im worried about it going nose down arse up and dissapearing off on a scent, Im thinking more spaniel cross as I believe they work closer in. no seen a few work and a few mates are swapping from terriers to them, there work horsesand i was more than impressed with what i saw, not seen any disapear yet on cent. How do you know yours is spot on if its not been to ground? How can you comment on recall if yours wont go to ground? Loosing dogs to ground for days on end is not something to boast about, I'll take what you have said with a pinch of salt. Quote Link to post

First of all, by goin to ground i mean working a hole, like a Ferret if that makes it any clearer for you. Moslty all dogs will mark up! Second, I've witnessed terriers hole up and its nothing to Boast about. The fact that you may lose your dog aint fun, "Terrier Collors" should see a safe return. I've tried giving you advice, but you reply with your snotty little comments. Your a waste. and the fact you mentioned a beddy then try to pull me down Edited September 5, 2010 by BooMster Quote Link to post
morton 5,369
BooMster,i dont know what your experience is with Beddy,s but like all terriers there is good and bad amongst them all,the versatility of a good working type Beddy shouldnt be underestimated. Quote Link to post

Beddys are very good and very keen dogs. Not slating the beddy at all, basicly the guy slates a patt for goin to ground but yet thinks beddys don't? Thats the picture i get anyways.. Fairplay BooMster, anybody working terriers that at some stage does not lose them, either to ground or permanently, must keep them on a lead. Quote Link to post

morton 5,369
Daveo, not all Bedlingtons are of the large type, the K.C. stuff is but i dont count them as real Bedlingtons[just look at the working dogs they have ruined].Look for a working type Beddy of the correct proportions and you will not be dissapointed with their working ability, they are extremely versatile. With the correct training you can stop them self entering.I have used Beddy,s for bushing for nearly 30 years, i expect mine to bolt a fox though.
