FoxyWarrior 17
I'm a bit stump. Two days after returning from a walk with the dogs one of them started to limp and hold his right paw up. On the walk he was fine, at home he was fine. It was only after an hour or so when he got up he started to limp.(Before this he was walking in the house fine) I stated to feel from the top of his shoulder all the way down to his foot, to see if I get any reaction. Nothing. I then checked his pad and inbetween the knukkles and could not see anything abnormal. 2days on after just resting him at home he can actually walk on the that foot, however although he is now putting his foot on the floor and placing weight on it he still will do a small limp. I'm in two minds still of taking him to the vets for a check over (he is insured) as he seems to be improving from 2 days back. I just boggled of what it can be thats causing him to limp? Something internal maybe?

Wxm 1,638
when you say you've checked his pads ... have you checked in between his toes for thorns or grass seeds??
artic 595
Foxy, no harm in coming on here with your concern. I had a look at him, it seems that he is more stiff than a limp. I did see that at times he just gets up and walks on all fours as normal, then when he's resting for a while then gets up again he seems stiff on that leg. Give him a couple of more days, then as Trotter58 has mentioned pop him into the vets for an assessment. He'll be fine.
FoxyWarrior 17
when you say you've checked his pads ... have you checked in between his toes for thorns or grass seeds?? Wxm, yes I have carefully checked several times in between his toes because he was licking the foot that he was holding up, but I couldn't see a thing.
skycat 6,174
If the dog limps after resting it could well be a torn or pulled muscle, or possibly tendon damage. I'm afraid most general small animal vets aren't able to assess muscle injuries: they'll probably just give anti-inflammatories and pain killers and suggest rest. Yes, this does sort out minor problems but if you want a correct diagnosis, treatment plan etc then go to a Greyhound vet.
