Yep just straight back to retrieving training and dont take her out until she gets back in line, dogs that dont retrieve are a pain, if you keep the training up and make it fun she will soon come around remember she is still very immature and a puppy yet.

she wont be a full working dog until her 2nd or 3rd season. dont fall into bad habits just for the sake of a few bunnies be consistent and i know you will have a good dog in the future

right people thanks for your reply's. i did try to get her retrieving her toys when she was younger. i know she's still only a pup but whenever i try and get her to retrieve she soon gets rather bored and dosn't seem interested at all. i started to use a dead rabbit and throwing it in the garden and calling her she sometimes brings it back but seems a bit more interested in just trying to eat the bloody thing. I've started a fair bit more retrieve training with a dead rabbit and calling her taking hold of her collar and telling to drop it when she doe's i'll tip her. She started to show a fair bit of progress bringing it straight back to me. Tonight i run her on one rabbit whih she caught. I called her and she brought it straight back to me alive but she was very reluctant to drop it. Which caused quite abit of frustration again. I dont really know what else to get her to retrieve other than a dead rabbit otherwise she looses interest very quikly. any suggestions?? thanks

The trick is to stop any training whilst she is still eager, whilst she still wants to continue the game, don't keep going till she gets bored. Then she will be more eager next time.

Again, with 'drop it' unless she drops it the game will not continue, she will soon cotton on.

Loads of praise for bringing the rabbit back, don't matter how much noise you make as training at this stage is more important than numbers, she needs to learn that pleasing you is much nicer than pleasing herself. let her keep hold of the rabbit for a while, don't try to take it from her, put her back on the slip. If you get the chance to light up another rabbit, try taking it off her whilst she is distracted by the one in the beam. Another trick is to give her the rabbit straight back after she releases it for you, then after a little while take it back off her, give it her back again and so on.

Many young dogs go through these daft phases whilst starting out, don't be disheartened, she will come good, don't matter if this season is a washout for her, she will have many more to come. Use it to make her a dog you would be proud to take anywhere.
