taking bess on her usual run tonight and came across a rabbit with mixy.bess is as good as 10 months old.not to look a gift horse in the mouth i thought this is a good first rabbit and could gain her a bit of cofidence.i let her of the lead as she had already seen it and took a healthy interest.thing is on ariving at the rabbit she didnt do anything...just looked at it?.i egged her on quite abit and she put her mouth round it but then let it go straight away again.dont really know what to think.got to admit i am a bit worried that shes not really up for it.has anyone experienced anything simalar and did the dog still turn out ok.all other dogs ive had from a pup have had an older dog about to show them the ropes.but i am starting from scratch and dont know any other lurchers to take her out with.????.

I guess it could just be the fact it didn't run so didn't excite her prey drive? either that or she's still too mentally young, different dogs mature at different ages. leave her be for a bit and try again in a month or two.

how bad was it with myxi .seen a dog that had been working for 7 yrs not touch a right poorly rabbit .i picked it up and it was on its last legs.the dog worked fine the rest of the day.

fur looked ok.the eyes were really bad.dont think its had it that long.its the first sign of mixy this year.

the dog iam on about would lift myxi rabbits if they ran ,dont khow what was wrong with the one she wouldnt touch .it wouldnt move and was just skin and bone its eyes were as clear as a bell.

hi ya mate, it still sends a shiver down my back just thinking about seeing the first catch. I have been privledged to be apart of two dogs schooling and belive me I did a few back flips myself. LOL. dont worry about ya pup just keep going out it will all come right for ya

I was once at a lurcher coursing meet , the mother of my oldest dog, a top class bitch was slipped on a myxi bunny ,which just sat there the bitch ran up to it but refused to pick it up everyone laughed.

The bitch won the stake.Sometimes if the rabbit does not act as normal, it throws the dog ,nothing to get uptight about.

cheers all.good encouragement.she has seen rabbits before and chased them with real keeness.she seems game most other times.reckon the ferreting will sort her out.but will be lamping [bANNED TEXT] that.cheers again all.atb.mat
