Guest Nightwalker
I know the area very well and there are definitely no CWD there at the moment. Funny what turns people; - ten or twelve years back I was invited out close to where you guys were, to help thin some munties out. The keeper chauffered me to a high seat in his pickup and told me to shoot any deer that walked past. I shot the first one walked into range but then thought, feck, I'm sat up in a tree, I didn't even walk here, I've done no active hunting at all, I've exercised no fieldcraft and I've not even been particularly quiet or still up here. I just couldn't see anything very interesting in it, so decided that was the end of high seats and me. About the same time I used to do the foxes and rabbits on a place in a neighbouring county where the keeper controlled fallow deer by driving round and shooting them out of the window of his Hilux - I had the same feeling about this - it had novelty value the first time or two but that was the limit of it. I've got nothing against people shooting deer from high seats, but I just don't want to do it myself, it just doesn't seem like sport to me and It's no treat to me to help some landowner solve his pest control problems in this manner. I told the keeper on the first place that if he wanted to see some proper sport I would bring a dog over and we could have ago at the munties together. Some good did come of this because he was curious to see a dog on a deer and after going out with me a couple of times he ended up getting one of his own. Quote Link to post
