WILTSHIRE ROE

Recommended Posts

I was very kindly invited by Foxdropper down to Wiltshire to do a spot of stalking and lamping last week. What a great bloke , we had a great time even though the weather was a bit unkind with gales and rain.

1st nights lamping we saw a few foxes but only one shot presented itself , off the mark and a vixen in the bag :)

Next day we went to a small farm where the landowner wanted a few roe culling as there was a new plantation which was suffering from deer damage , straight away we spotted 3 roe lying down next to a hedgerow , I had to take a head shot from a gate ,1st roe in bag :D

We only walked a matter of a couple of hundred yards to another field and spotted 5 roe this time lying in the hedgerows , I was amazed to see roe living in hedges like this rather than woodland like back home.

Anyway after a crawl down a hedgerow and a bit of bolt work , 4 more roe were added to the cull.

5 roe culled in less than an hour :clapper:

Out lamping again that night and it was pissing down , but managed another vixen which needed culling as it had part of its back leg missing ;)

Day 2 stalking and I added another roe to the cull , once again shot lying in a hedgrow :) Foxdropper wanted to try my moderated rifle so he took the next roe with a nice head shot :D

Then it was out lamping again and I added a 3rd vixen to the proceedings after playing a different fox for about 10 mins , We happened to flick the lamp to our right and there was the fox just sitting watching us ........... ;)

What a fantastic trip down South yet again , I am thinking of moving down there , where the deer population is plentiful. :D:D

Thanks again Foxdropper for some great sport , company and thank the missus for good food :D

I probably wasn't looking that hard. Also was usually riding or sorting out the pigs so i'd have been making a gallumphing bloody racket most of the time :icon_redface:

Foxhunter- It was a pleasure mate.Nice to be in the company of a likeminded sportsman. The roe around me are plentiful and therefore taken for granted .Its only when you hear about another part of the country that you start appreciating your own .Roe can be seen out at any time of day or night and no early morning trips are necessary to bag a few .Pity we never saw any muntjac mate as I know how you feel about those little

deer .
