Evening shoot

Morning guys.

 

I'm happy to say my 95K is back from Sandwell fixed and well for a small sum.

 

However the evening before I got her back I went out for an evening hunt with the 97k.

 

Last time I went I tired quickly and wasnt happy with the equip I was using etc and my conclusions were that I needed to arrive later next time.

 

I got there about 8oclock or further on and spent 20 mins on the targets them set off.

 

 

Didn't take long until I spotted my first bunny, but as I worked out my approach a little rabbit came out the hedge about 5 metetrs infront of me. Execution style the rabbit fell..

 

 

So on I went walking around looking for bunnys which I could then approach from a chosen direction and hopefully get into prone/sat position to shoot.

 

Once again I was suprised at the lack of bunnys, they were about but not in abundance.

 

I became a bit frustrated again at the shooting, not because I had only had one un-satisfying kill but it seemed like I just wasnt feeling the hunters vibe- being impatient etc.

 

So I just sat down for awhile parrallel with some bank that the bunnys seem to be starting a new home in. I was sat just thinking in the lovely oxfordshire countryside for about 10-15 minutes and then movement.... a huge doe hoped out from the bank. I estimated 20 meters, gave the tiny bit of hold under and turned off the lights on the big bunny.

This one was strange as it went down textbook fashion but was a real bleeder, obviousl;y the lights were off and it was brain dead but may have been like we hear sometimes in the human world of miracle shots of people being hit in the head etc and surviving. There was no chance of surviving for this bunny but something was different about this bunny as it bled and bled, despite appearig stone cold dead. Either was it was a humane headshot. Sorry for graphic picture!!

After this I was a bit more switched on and my sit down had paid off.

 

I left this position and headed back through a route I had been earlier, I missed a 30 meter shot I was a bit miffed about, but carried on to a corner of the field.

There seemed to be alot of action going on, lots of young ones it seemed. This picture is of the corner of the field, all hedges were active and I was in the bottom left of the image, the pics taken after I got up and began to leave.

 

 

I picthed down here and took 2 small bunnys quite easily and felt I would leave them to get a bit bigger befpre I wiped these ones out, I could have knocked them down all evening as it was getting on a bit by this point and it was obvious that the permission comes alive massivley in the final hour before dark! - Note to self!!

 

Saw this Hare very close at points, tried to take some scope pics but didnt do very well!

 

 

 

 

I made a final sweep round one side of the land before I headed to a mates house where another friend is house sitting, being good family friend. They have an amazing home with an indoor pool where we were all blasting music and playing pool volleyball / drinking! Good times!

 

This is when the hutn really got good. I was spotting alot mroe rabbits about,. they were very alert but I like dit , it was good hunting. I finally spotted 2 near a hedge, I decided to do the main approach on the opposite side of a hedge 30-35 meters away from them and try find a hole i nthe hedge to shoot nthrough. There was nowher eto do it, and I came to a shorter part of the hedge where I could take a standing shot. As I always say, they arent my best shots, but I ahve been getting a bit of quarry standign recently, and I came round the corner, raised the rifle and the first bunny ran in, the 2nd didn't and I let the weight of the 97K hang at the front of the gun, aiming itself with my left hand really close tothe trigger guard, gave a mildot holdover as I guessed just over 30 meters.

 

Pulled the trigger - Perfect followthrough ensued- and this is the result =

 

 

Dropped like a stone and I was a very happy air gunner, was a killer shot about 34 meters standing over a hedge and bang on the mark.

 

This picture I was stood at where the rabbit fell, and I took the shot from the hedge drop in the left of the picture!

 

 

 

As I walked back bunnys were everywhere. This is the time for me to come back|!

About 9.30 the place comes alive!

standing shots are not my best either so i understand the enjoyment you get when you get a good clean kill from standing..

some time frustration takes over and to be honest your better of going home,because it just leads to worst things believe me i know .(you cant hit jack shit)

 

but nice to see you didnt let it get the better of you and stayed calm! like a true hunter would do.
