ReggieCuz 18
think the arab in bull arab does go back to the saluki.not 110% but think i read it somewhere.i lived on the sunny coast not long ago.what a place. no saluki. the way it was explained to me was, that one of the blokes who had them first. wanted a flash name to go after the "bull". im not sure but i think money was a big infulence. he had a doberman in the yard called "arab"....so the arab bit comes from an unrelated doberman just to sell a few more pups. incidentely his line that he is selling now has the catchy handle of "bull enduro's" lol, and he's got another line he calls Bull Stop. The bull enduro pics I've seen they look the business but I've never seen one hunt or have never heard any first hand stories about them hunting. But they look good ;-) Quote Link to post
ReggieCuz 18
From memory you can use scent dogs to find, track and flush deer for shooting but I'm not sure if you can use running dogs to bring them down??? I could be wrong, deer are feral in Oz so it might be gloves off. When I lived there I never went deer hunting, although there are plenty around depending where you are. Quote Link to post
tango 221
good luck mate i had a friend who went out a few years back and he got a job shooting roo from a helicopter. Quote Link to post
Gos 4
I expect that you can run them with dogs and even if you can't who cares the place is massive nobody would know, there 'fields' are thousands upon thousands of acres. So running them wouldn't be a problem. Finding a decent lurcher on the other hand might be! Quote Link to post

ReggieCuz 18
We don't call our running dogs lurchers in Oz, we call them roodogs or staghounds. There are plenty of good ones out there still. They tend to be a heavier type than you use here in England. Lots of deerhound crosses and greyhound crosses. Smooth and rough coats. Quote Link to post
riohog 5,907
im shure i was told the bull arab was a mix of grey x bull x pointer. the pointer addad for nose, think your right there tomo The Bull Arab was developed in the 1970s by Mike Hodgens, and is a cross between a Bull Terrier, Greyhound, and English Pointer or Shorthaired Pointer (dog breeds).[1] Originally they were 50% Bull Terrier with the other two parts being German Shorthaired Pointer and Greyhound however over the years Bloodhound and English Pointer was added. Some bloodlines have mastiff type breeds too. Quote Link to post
