runforyourlife 361
Does anybody have a picture of these things.... In a debate about land ownership on here, a guy came along and said that there were "dropboxes" in the walls in the yorkshire dales. He actually said that they were every 100 yards! And he regularly went emptying them! Now i have ferreted all over the dales and never bumped into one of these. He actually said they were all over my permission. I dont doubt that there are certain traps made by the keepers but if anybody has a pic of these set ups, could you pls post it, as i have been waiting for the guy in question to take a pic for over 6 months. Yet he goes there every week?? Cheers...

Nice 1 poacher.. You got a pic.. The guy said that they are still there, and that they run all the way along the back lane from grassington to kettlewell!!?? So was it just one keeper who made them? I am talking late 90s .I have not been up the dales for a few years last time was ferreting for lads with hawks and the low rabbit numbers in some of these areas now i couldent see the drop boxes wich would need checking everyday been worthwile to the keeper [bANNED TEXT] a drive around with the lamp and rifle could produce better results [bANNED TEXT] rabbits are spread out more.I know [bANNED TEXT] my mate used to empty these box traps it was not unusual to come home with 200 plus rabbits after a days ferreting as well. Rolfe 2
The type i use are the "Leader" galvanised metal ones, John b in his book shows how to make the wooden type. This is one prior to installation so you can get some idea of the construction.

I know the land very well all well keepered right up from Bolton Abbey(Duke of Devonshire's estate)right through Kettlewell,Arncliffe,Starbottom and on up to Buckden, just the one road in and out unless ou fancy going over Horsehouses? so its not hard to monitor what cars are about. Why put your car round the back of anywhere when you have permission to be there? You honestly dont think to let the local police force know your whereabouts may save you a lot of hassle hey? Do you empty those drop boxes above the road by Kilnsey Crag? we used to open them as we got there and then empty and close them when we left very productive Y.I.S Leeview 2nd of April it was posted Rolfes picture of the drop box is spot on but in situ you'll be lucky to even see the tunnel which is the only part above ground The boxes are permanently in place, closed for most of the time building up the rabbits familiarity of using the route from warren to feeding ground and then opened up and the rabbit uses the tunnel and drops into the underground box and so on with every rabbit that passes through till you go empty them and close them back up after despatching the rabbits removed from the boxes I've said I would post pictures and they will be posted just have to remember to take a camera Now you still have nt given myself Graham W's phone number that you did offer me? And did you ask him how many Sean's he knows? Y.I.S Leeview
