PBurns 9
My dogs have free run of a 1/2 acre yard during the day, and access to a heated kennel in a stone garage attached to the house as well. In short they are cool in summer and warm in winter. At night they sleep inside in crates in the laundry room, unless they are curled up in the study. There is no distinction between pets and workers in this house -- they are hunting partners and treated as such. They are not treated as humans -- they are dogs -- but they are treated with a great deal of respect and given more than food, water, warmth and medical attention. Dogs have minds and crave attention and they get it. Squirrels and feeders in the back yard give them a small job and a sense of purpose during the day. Patrick Quote Link to post
elma-fudd 0
ma dad always said that keeping a dog in doors with central heating is no good for a dog he kept his border collie out side, but av all ways kept ma dogs inside and mine look great there looked after better than i look after myself, how ever i would say dogs kept outside have thicker coats . targa 5
Two in a kennel outside, and two in the house. When the wheater is dry, they all run free in the garden. All working dogs, and the couple in the garden have thicker coats in the winter, more under-coat. Quote Link to post

Guest midnight_runner
Always kept my Dogs in doors with me. Otherwise I see it as like having an alarm system which ye set up down the road somewhere ....! My latest terrier sleeps in my bed, with me and my other two Dogs. (Fourth Dog's simply too big for the single futon. I'll probably end up buying a double, so he can get in there too. Keeps me warm!) Worker or moocher about the house, I have them indoors. I don't subscribe to this shit about they're " Tools". A hammer's a tool. Chuck it in the shed and forget about it, it'll still drive a nail at the weekend. Dogs are living, thinking, emotional things. They're pack animals. Keep them around ye and ye bond better than a hammer. Get to know each other and thus get better responses when out and about. That's how I see it anyway. Be looking foreward to seeing this one expand. Wish I had more time to think and say more. Hope to be on satellite Broad Band by the end of the year. Join in better then! spot on ditch well said i keep mine in doors that way i can keep an eye on them at all times but it would be nice to get a seat now and again Quote Link to post
Guest the poacher
out doors in kennels which are cleaned out twice a day Quote Link to post
Funky_monks 0
Ootdoors with the (block built) shed door open and their beds on the floor in the day, indoors at night. Until today - I have just finished building them a kennel. I'll bung some straw in there and they can use that and I'll get me shed back. It'd be no good having mine indoors in the day, they'd eat my shoes and piss everywhere (they are housetrained - but only when we are in, it seems!). Quote Link to post

Got the same problem with 1 dog inside, he's an angel when your home, but when you turn your back he's pissing everywhere Quote Link to post

JACKO. Similar reasons here, I've had my garage broken into a few times since I moved here and my back garden is right next to the garage, I would'nt dare leave my terriers outside because they definately would be stolen. Ive put CCTV up in case it happens and when they're in the garden I'm always with them. Ideally, I'd like to keep them outside, my dog (Who died recently) used to sleep in the garage with access to a dog flap and seemed to prefer sleeping in there? Did'nt have any break- ins when that arrangement started :11: I got home from work one morning and some B******S had tried to steal my motorbike, the dog was still snarling and frothing at the mouth Bet they got the shock of their lives Quote Link to post
