when i say throw water over them it dont mean wet them through i mean just throw a little bit of water and say in a deep voice shut up it does work in some cases not all but its worth a try

the water just reinforces what you are saying

If ya gonna go down the water direction i would suggest a plant/hairdressers water spray thingy, filled with salt water i have used this before when normal training havent worked, if the dogs barking/wining spray it in the face WHILE or immediatly after, unless it immediate it wont associate it with its wining, tastes horrible, but is harmless and dont soak ya dog through, make sure theres fresh water out though.

But if ya dog learns that wining get you there, even if it gets a face full of salty water, it probably will just do it more, really you want to ignore it.

Good luck anyway, Why did the previous owner get rid? and do you beleive them?

they said they didnt have time for him anymore due to work demands, and they did seem genuine in telling me he didnt do that before thats why i was thinking maybe hes still settling in away from the owner seeing as he was with them from 6 weeks, he will be 2 on xmas day.

Now you have said he is 18mth . . . then the situation becomes one that i would suspect as Rio Hog has mentioned, the dog is probably very unsettled, everything is new and different for him and his anxiety levels will be raised massively. Just time, patience, firm but fair treatment, lots of exercise, good food, and a bit of understanding whilst he gets used to everything and settles into a routine.

That's good news Nicole  Sounds as if he's beginning to settle in now, you've got to give them time, haven't you? No point getting a partnership off to a bad start by slapping the pup around before he's had a chance to find his feet...

yes, seems to be settling in, he`s a great wee dog like
