gurtwurz 793
alright fellas, i've got a bit of ground with squirrel issues and though i've been rabbiting fairly successfully for the last couple of years(used to shoot loads on me grandads farmland when i was a kid n teenager but took 15 years off due to beer and birds!) i've never really been tree ratting so anyone got any tips for me? thanks fellas, all the best wurz Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
hi mate. i find the best and easiest tactic for shooting squizzers is to stalk round a wood stopping every few steps to look around. if a squirrels is in a tree and spots you they usually freeze for a few seconds. this is your best chance of shooting one. or you can sit down at the base of a tree or behind a log or something in an area where squirrels are seen often. only go for headshots as squirrels are tough and body shots will just wound them. if you do the 'sit and wait' tactic wear some kind of face cover like a scrim scarf or headnet as your face will stand out and give you away. edit: noticed you have a dog. if you have dreys in your area (squirrel 'nests') then your terrier can mark which ones are dormant and which ones have squirrels in them. squirrels are attracted to noise and if you make a sharp squeaking noise or anythin noise they will come out to investigate. i know this sounds rubbish but it works trust me. stealthy1 3,964
The best way to find grey squirrels is to look on the floor under firs and pine trees for cones that have been chewed to get the seeds out, then just sit under the tree until bits of cone rain down on you from above, then perforate the little gits Quote Link to post
