mooney1 120
hey lads, just wondered what your best ever shot has been when out with your gun in the field, mine was on the farm with my webley raider 10 on a wood pigeon ,a perfect headshot ,the pigeon dropped straight out of the top of the tree, and on the range-finder I recorded it to be at 47 yard Quote Link to post
Alexisrouzee 6
mine was a rabbit i had at one of my permissions, ran off to 100 odd metres managed to stalk my way to a lasered distance of 60m, there was no wind and i was slightly elevated, made my adjustments for distance and took the shot best shot of my air rifle career so far,i will find that hard to beat but will keep on trying for that perfect shot!! Alexisrouzee 6
yeah i get well into it, i just have to try and calm my heart beat from the adrenaline before the sqweeze on the trigger, its like i have the taliban in my sights and im behind a barrett 50 cal honestly!! well maybe not that bad but the actually stalk and setting up wind of your quarry and knowing the land and your quarry is the best bit of it really!!! well for me anyway Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Hi all, Not my best shot ever, but best pair of shots were with my old .22 Gun Power Stealth in Larkhill Salisbury when I stalked down the edge of a field to see 2 rabbits sat about 10 foot apart in the early Summer evening. I didn’t have a LRF at that stage so used my adjustable objective lens (AO) to range the rabbits on x 18 mag. This showed the rabbits to be at 55 metres - ish give or take 2 or 3 metres each way. I knew that I wasn’t going to get any closer without being seen due to the openness of the field from there on so decided to take the shot from there on the right hand bunny. I didn’t have a mil dot scope at that time and had a Simmons Pro Air 6-18x40 with bullet drop compensating turrets (BDC turrets) which I had previously calibrated out to 55 metres with a tape measure. I dialled in 55 metres on the turret which automatically changed my zero for me and dropped to one knee. I squeezed the trigger while placing the cross hairs on the brain of the right hand bunny. It just rolled over and went for a long sleep without frightening the second bunny its pal. I reloaded and placed the cross hair again on the left hand bunny before squeezing the trigger to see bunny number 2 roll over dead and join its pal sleeping. On retrieval of the 2 bunnies I noted that both had been hit in the kill zone (brain) hence the humane and instantaneous death. Si Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
I have many 'best ever shots' well guess they would be most memorable shots really Some for the skill required to take them; some for the luck and sadly 2 shots that went wrong. One of the 'lucky' ones was when I got a long range bunny at 45 paces. Well I say lucky, it would have been a brilliant skill shot right between the eyes But the bloody thing yawned as I squeezed off the round and it got the pellet in the back of the throat, dead centre The pellet severed its spinal column, the bunny just seemed to lift its front paws off the grass and roll over backwards heres the link to the original post http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=117693&st=0&p=1215007&fromsearch=1entry1215007 Brilliant portrait of the bunny smiling showing how I left his dental work intact :11: Another memorable shot was the mice, one I shot in the neck, the other had the cheek to start snaffling the jam I had put up on a metal backstop. I was Zeroing my Beast at the time, so that one got it in the back, what a mess a .22 AAF makes of the chest cavity of a mouse The one that I got in the neck was my 1st ever kill and its what got me into hunting Both the unpleasent memorable shots, were when the wind took the pellet just a cm off POA and drilled through the bunnies eyes and out the other eye; resulting in me having to run over to the bunny and neck them. Luckily I am a sufficiantly skilled Marksman that incidents like that are very few and far between thank goodness. But if I have to say which one is my Most memorable shot, it would have to be my 1st ever bunny Phantom Quote Link to post
