Very nice bit of kit there mate, what calibre did you go for? Make sure you give it a real good clean before you go out and zero it and if possible take the bolt to bits and give that a thorough clean, mine was covered in god knows what when i got it

Thats good advice, I bought my Tikka and it was spewing out all sorts of stuff Lol. By the way I was considering getting an Howa, it came highly recommended until I got the chance of a T3 at a snip. Hope it goes well with it man DAVE

another thing is to make sure you clean it every few rounds when its new, other wise it will mess the rifling up, let us know how you get on with them privi's, i use norma 50grain v max through my howa 223 not too bad groups

Hi Mark

Get yourself a good 2nd hand (german) Schmidt & Bender 6 x 42, best scope for that calibre, wouldnt pay anymore than £300 though.

Good luck with the new rifle :gunsmilie:

New gun/barrel, innexpensive scope, budget ammo....... you should be well pleased with 2" at 200!

i would think hard before going fixed mag on a 223. if it was for deer yes but at night in the lamp a bit of extra mag can help.

if you get a s&b scope make sure you get the right crosshair as there pretty thick and can cover the bulls eye your shooting at. and rabbits at long range

I have to say german or hungarian it makes no difference, I have a 6x42 hungarian S&B on my HMR and it's outstanding- lets you shoot with every available minute of light- I am lead to believe that the only difference between the hungarian and german models is the location of their assembly- everything else is the same

there is no difference between Hungarian and German Schmidt - even S & B say so themselves as I asked!

However 6x42 on a 223 is IMHO the wrong mag, I much prefer a variable up to about 12x since 223 targets tend to be foxes and rabbits, not deer, and they're at longer ranges than the average deer too.
