undisputed 1,664
Ok time for another question. I have noticed a lot of my pics are blurry especially when I enlarge them to 100%. I'm using a 70 - 300 mil lens it's a nikon and has all that vr stuff. I'm pretty sure it's not camera shake or a prob with light. Any suggestions or advice on were I'm going wrong and how I fix it greatly appreiciated
J Darcy 5,871
Hi. If you are shooting moving objects you may need the VR off. I have spent two years experimenting with IS/non IS on moving objects and the best results are non IS. If this isnt the problem could you elabourate further please and someone on here may be able to help.....JD

I've trying to get a shot of a water hen but because of the bad weather I couldn't find one. Finally came across one the other day and spent about half an hour taking pics when I downloaded them onto pc the results were poor. The finished product looks like black matt paint finish if you know what I mean no great detail. Might it be my settings on the cam are of?

MuttleMcTuttle 21
When you put the pics up can you put the shooting data on here too? It helps to determine the cause of a problem if you know what the camera settings were.

Hannah4181 260
There is a whole host of things it could be, like Muttle Mctuttle has advised, post some of the images and include the exit data, that way it will be much easier to determine the problem.
J Darcy 5,871
Also could simply be that there wasnt enough light. That is probably the most common.
undisputed 1,664
I don't think it was a prob with the light as it was quite sunny. I'll put the pics up when I can still to convert from raw file and I'm not on the pc at the mo using iPhone to reply
ghillies 209
some other info would be useful, shutter speed, apature and iso for the image etc, because the only way to know for sure is to get the tripod out.. set it on timer too.. i like hand holding because its fluid..but i will admit, yu cant beet a pod. theres a generalisation that you need at least the same shutter speed as the focal legth, so 70mm = 1/70'th or more, the larger the lens you add a bit, so at 300mm maybe 1/450'th of a second. if you've got a plastic body i've notised one time of the day (as the light goes and cold drops) yu can forget it for abut ten minutes because even on a pod theyre slightly blurred on full veiw to stop the sjake, if its moving add more speed.(so the iso goes up or/and the apature opens etc etc...or reduce your focal legnth, the more the zoom the darker it is). how bigs the picture straight from the camera? 6 meg..10meg etc.. im finding a 15 meg and the full image is often not quite all there, bring it down to 70-50% the better it looks..(hand held is often the worst). when the shutter speed starts to get down below 1/100'th on any slight movement by the breeze and on a full image its crapped out.(on the 20 percent image it looks ok.. if you want to notise the effect of focal legth, go for a twighlight sesh.. start with a 70-300 then switch to a 50mm... you'll think something up lol. Bush Rummager 4,771
Have you checked you're getting a fast enough shutter speed on those pics mate? not accidentally knocked/changed your shooting mode? I'm not familiar with Nikon gear but some of the latest Canon lenses have 2 modes of IS, one mode for shooting still subjects and the second for panning.. not sure if that could be somthing to look at? Let us know when you get to the bottom of it!..
ghillies 209
the other is relying on auto focus... ok some days its a god send, other days its a burden, it doesnt focus right and the image looks burry... durty lens/sencer....misted up lens.....it's suprising how little or much it affects. ghillies 209
theres two pics at the end of this thread, one's shake the others out of focus.. http://www.thehuntin...howtopic=145323 oh a naff filter wont help matters...easy to test for, take it off.(start with a tripod...).
