luckyplum 50
just a quick update on my bitch who,s been letting her rabbits go. on monday morning i took her for a bit of ferreting, although i took both the bitch and her mother before putting a ferret to ground i put the mother back in the van. we bolted a couple of rabbits one was chased by the bitch but was,nt caught, the second rabbit i bowled over with the shotgun, the bitch seemed a completly different dog she ragged the dead rabbit and seemed more involved and keen ! i feel sure that if this bitch had seen more work on her on rather than with her mother she would be so much better. as my mate said to me after a few beers last week there are no bad dogs only bad trainers ! by the way me and the missus have been trying with a rabbit skin dummy but she dose,nt want to know, yet!! cheers plum ! the bullcross man 6
Its seems like she is keen enough if she is coursing rabbets and having a rag about on one that she has just seen get killed. What breed is the dog mate and what age is she Quote Link to post

Attack Fell Terrier 864
If its only a young dog then maybe you're just going to have to wait about for the penny to drop? Spare the dog some patience but be honest. Quote Link to post

Your mate either hasn't seen much, hasn't a clue or had a beer too many when he came out with that statement. Any experienced lurcherman will be able to tell you that not every dog makes the grade, that is a fact. When you say your bitch has been letting her rabbits go what do you mean? Has she just been running them without catching or has she been catching them then letting them go again? I'd agree with you about starting her off on her own, sometimes when they're run doubled the youngster will hold back and let the older [possibly more dominant] dog do the work and I can't see a benefit in that. I've always started a dog on it's own, it either catches or it misses the rabbit and it's undivided attention is on the rabbit not another dog running with it. As has been asked already what age is your bitch? Quote Link to post
