walked out with the dogs the other day i let my longdog of to have a mooch, but i always keep my ten month old pat on the lead.I know he would enter but i dont wont to ruin him by starting to early. But as iwas getting over a fence he pulled back and slipped the lead over his head and and went down a single hole bury and started to bay.Cursing my luck i blocked the entrance and ran the two fields home to get my tools. When i got back i removed the slab and could see his black tail wagging away,so reached in and pulled him out gently. There was a real stong dog fox on the other end so i dispatced him quickly,When i got home and cleaned my pup up he had lost a lot of teeth from the back top and bottom iwas gutted. Why does it happen to the ones you fancy.Anyway do any of you think this will effect his work in the future?

from the back top and bottom???

i'm presuming that by top and bottom you mean the incisors??

and that by back you mean molar/pre molars( which i find an unusual injury from work).

take him to a vets(or experianced dog man/woman)and have him checked over(to break off the hind teeth must take a hell of alot of force) he must have taken a pasting.do you havae anti biotics and pain relief for him?

i hope you let him have his reward from the fox and made the whole thing a positive experiance for him. well done the dog.

if he has a few teeth missing it should not affect his work too much when they are properly healed, its certainly not going to help him though.

as this is your first post i would suggest you"say hello" in the new members section, some may find this as a first post a bit dodgy as they are "antiphobic".

Strange to lose those teeth, you would expect them to break at the front of the mouth if anything.

My russell has a broken tooth, just a small 1 at the front. I can only presume he clashed teeth with his quarry.

if the dog was right behind the slab at entrance i,d say he,s been bossed back and has proberbly took a good hammering on the way by an expirienced fox ,not the best way for him to start but at least he got his rewards at the end .had one do same many yeas ago self entered with no collar on took us about 5 hrs to get to him and he,d took a reel lot but never put him off any

At 10 months old the teeth haven't yet set properly in the jaw: the roots bed down into the jaw bone from betwen 9 - 12 months of age: which is why it isn't a good idea to let them see hard biting quarry until after that.
