sibaldib 6
Excellent write up Jack and also the accompanying pictures. Sometimes you get more of a buzz working hard for one shot than you do with half a dozen "easy ones". Keep us all up to date how you get on from this location. Cheers Sib Quote Link to post
Snoopy. 0
What a superb read mate. Really, really well done. I was almost looking through your eye's in parts. Great stuff. Well done on waiting it out. Shaun. Quote Link to post
jasper65 6
Cracking post Jack!! I got stuck into this one, its better than some of the Hunting stories I used to read in Airgun world many moons ago, by the sounds of it it all payed off ..... The Pigeons here are a little easier due to the amount of cover and Rhodies I can hide in, all the actions starts around 2.30 - 3.00pm when they come in to eat the Ivy berries, plus they have just dropped the cover crop on the edge of the wood that brings them in, the only problem I have is trying to get a good clear shot, the amount of time I look through the scope only to see twigs blocking a good clean path for the pellet.... Hope to read some more soon next time you're out and about... cheers Jasper Quote Link to post

JackReid 35
Cheers all, will be there as soon as possible, if I get the car back today, then it will be today hhehe. The woodies are just not used to having people round them other than the odd farmer so they are almost as wary as the corvids. The reason I'm onto all this feather is the lack of bunnies during daylight hours, used to be thousands but they mostly all met their maker or got mixi... Only the strong ones survive now and I think at this point in the seasons they favour laying low and must be active at night as I see the droppings and routes. Its quite fun though. When I've got a bit more cash intend on buying a gun lamp/torch (will enquire on here closer to the time) but quite possibly I wont need it with spring coming (fingers crossed). Also my friend has got us a new permission, but I think once again its going to be real open field stuff in parts but we will see what we can do Havent done a recon up there yet. Phantom 631
Nice going Jack I'm still awaiting my 1st woody, cant get near em due to lack of cover. The only trees they land in near my permissions is in the old ladies garden next to the cemy Once there is a bit of cover, I'll try to deek some into the paddock. That shot looks like it got it in the lower neck/spinal column Quite probably dead before it left the branch flapping on its way down will be due to nervous system shutting down, much like a bunny jumps or kicks when you decimate its brain Phantom Quote Link to post

Jack srry to say but shooting a pigeon when its roosting or feeding with an air rifle not really very fair is it lol taking them out the air with a shotgun is abit better as they have a chance to get away.. take a look at the TIP i posted just now.. on how to get them woodies where u want em for only £3 Quote Link to post

NOT ANOTHER ONE Jeezz, this is the AIR RIFLE section Buddy We use our SKILL with a SINGLE piece of lead measuring 4.5 or 5.5mm in Diametre to dispatch Woodies Its fairly common knowledge that woodie's see in UV and that marking branches or even better still Deek's works well. I personally don't think that chucking a handfull of lead balls with a radius of 6 to 24 inches at a bird takes a lot of skill however sneaking up to within 30 yards and placing one of our pellets (with a comparatively slow velocity compared to a shotgun) in the 10-15 mm killzone of a woodies head take a hell of a lot more skill. Like someone else mentioned, each to their own but please restrict your posts in the Airgunning section to airguns and hunting with them. There is a section of the forum dedicated to shooting woodies and other species with shotguns So if you wish to talk about peppering a woodie, please use the approprate section Now wheres my beer Phantom Edited March 1, 2010 by Phantom Quote Link to post
