jigsaw 11,905
Out of the blue last week I had a phone call from an old friend I hadnt seen for a bit.He rang asking if I could procure a kid goat for him.Andrew has a farm and his hobby is semi exotic animals.he has a lot of stuff he keeps for his own pleasure(that sounds soooo wrong) he has ring tailed lemurs,alpaccas,4 sika deer, wallabys and many rabbits, guinea pigs runing loose and fowl of all sorts. He heard I shoot a few ferral goats and I told him I was out in a day or two later so I'd take one if the oppertunity arose. My youngest son and I went to the hills where they reside and we headed up with the rifle just in case a billy showed its head,I have stoped shooting the nannys as they are nursing at the moment and I havent the stomach to kill the mothers as I would be forced to do the same to the kids to prevent them starving to death(big softie I know)I walked up the rough clearing and straight away I walked into a half dozen little goatees suning themselves, they were tiny and had no fear of us at all.I approached from the right, the son from the left and with no sign of the mother I just picked up this rather attractive(not in a sexual way of course)grey coloured babby. It bleated and the rest scampered.I waited a while and as it kept calling the mother came alone through the trees with another kid in tow so I went off with the newest member of the family under my arm.The son thought it was a right adventure and had the kid siting on his laps the whole way home.I rang andrew and he turned up and took the little fellow away to his new home. The update today is the kid is settled in and is taking his bottles no hassle so wasnt that a good way of reducing the numbers of the herd without death .heres a few pics for you to AHHHH over NOW ALL YOU TOUGH NUTS OUT THERE TELL ME, HOW COULD YE HARM SOMETHING SO DARN CUTE Edited February 24, 2010 by jigsaw

J Darcy 5,871
Yes Jigsaw, it just goes to show how tough the feral goat is. Giving birth at the worst possible time of year! I found a few youngsters the other year sat tight under a tiny spray of gorse. It seems that harsh weather has little effect on the tough little chaps. Great pics.....JD
