I realy enjoy bringing up and training springers i have bred because i know they will not let me down unlike this young lurcher i have.IMHO a spaniel off generations of tested working dogs is a doddle to train and get working to a standard most of us are happy with i wish i could say the same for some lurchers.Catcher its an ideal time of the year to get this type of dog as the weather will be right [bANNED TEXT] its at the age of training it in water.atvb dell

To be honest i genuinely believe that if more people took the time and effort to train and socialise a puppy properly, then they would realise how much more they could get from the animal as an adult working dog. The first year of a puppies life is the most important time, and a time where they learn from experiences that will determine their nature when mature. When i get a puppy i dedicate hours and hours to training, they come everywhere with me, are put in hundreds of different scenarios and situations that i hope will make them the most balanced and social, well behaved dogs. I do it because i enjoy it and i can't stand badly behaved dogs with no manners, mine are far from perfect but they rarely show me up, are all confident, all adore me and will try their hearts out in whatever i ask of them . . . . . and that for me is enough.

Always been a firm believer that a pup should be allowed to be a pup till a year old. Yes simple commands like sit, stay and fetch can be introduced fairly early and some dogs will pick up things alot quicker than others but doing to much to early on can be just as bad as not enough later. Got myself 2 17 week old labs at the moment and so far have been good as gold.

I love bringing a pup on, and yes, as I get older I'm in far less of a hurry to get them entered: that first year goes all too fast as you get on in years so now I make the most of it. I can understand young lads with their first dogs wanting to get out and get hunting, but time spent socialising and training will always pay off in the end, not to mention the permanent injuries young and over keen dogs will pick up if entered too early.
