possumtrapper 46
Alright lads, I've got a 10 week old russell pup who is a real bundle of trouble, thinks he's ten foot tall and built like a brick $hit-house - takes on anything whether its the neigbours pit-bull or the nasty german down the road. My vet tells me I need to get his nuts cracked, but if he turns out half decent I'd like to breed from him later down the track - has anyone had sperm taken off their dogs before castrating them? If so at what age would you do this and will the frozen sperm keep long enough - I'm not going to know whether he's any good for at least a couple of years. Any advice would be appreciated, but make it quick as he's already humping my leg. Quote Link to post

possumtrapper 46
Cheers Dottydoo, I'll do that, my mate had a similar problem, he had a hell of a time with his russell forever getting out and after any bitch that came on heat - so he got him castrated and now he's 7 years old and the best dog he's ever owned - wished he had ten more just like him, but its too late now. kill um with crisps 7
Keep him as he is. Hese a only a puppy and a terrier at that, hese not doing anything out of the ordinary. If anything you should fins it amusing, keep a lead round his neck so he cant actually get to his intended targets and wait for him to grow out of it. Quote Link to post

Hepher 86
I GET RID OF MY SPERM AT EVERY OPPERTUNITY, EVERY HOLE'S A GOAL, AND AN OLD 1 CLOSING IS AS GOOD AS A NEW 1 OPENING Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
with talk of castration at ten weeks i think the vet needs shooting( DO NOT TAKE THAT LITERALLY PLEASE). the vet wants to make some money. i would let the pup sort itself out(is it your only dog? if so try to get it with others as often and as soon as its jabbed up)well socialised dogs will show him his boudries(if necessary knock some sense into him). atb with the pup bud. slingshot82 32
Take no notice of the vets! As topper says, they are trying to make a fast buck. Vets also believe there are too many unwanted dogs and puppies so they just want to neuter everything to try and combat the problem. Both my russells were very much the same at that age, its perfectly normal. I got 1 of mine neutered at 18 months though because they were fighting all the time, so I got the instigator neutered! It was either that or 1 had to go. Atb best with your pup mate. Quote Link to post
