Out with the lamp.

Recommended Posts

After a lovely Sunday roast, I decided to have a bash at a bit of lamping.

Got all the kit up together and made a flask of tea, then drove to the permission after giving my friendly farmer a ring to let him know Id be about.

Got to the shoot at about 16.45.

Walked up to the top of the field and picked my lay up spot.

Cleared a few Bramble stumps and made my nest :D

I put my backpack in clear view from where I would be shooting from, and used it to range find 35yds, where I placed my first marker, lazed back to 30-25-and 20.

Markers out.

I then settled down with a cup of tea, and waited as the light faded, looking out over the kill zone.

While waiting, and nearly dark, I saw a huge Dog fox come through the hedge, and trot across to the other side of the field, closly follwed by ANOTHER  I nearly packed up and went home.

Anyway darkness fell and it was getting very damp and cold, the wind got up to a gentle breeze.

After an hour of darkness I thought id give the lamp a flick, and was greeted by a big pair of moon eye's, yep one of the foxe's had come back.....chit I thought to myself, this is going to be a waste of time, but stuck it out for another two and a half hours.

Flicking the lamp on about every half hour......not a F***ing rabbit to be seen.

Sod this I thought, packed away the gear, and made my way back to the car.

Had a mooch around a couple more fields, same again, not a sign of a bunny.

But having been laid up for a while, it was good to have a look about.

I did take some pictures, but have trouble getting them on here, will have to practice that. :fool:

Cheers me dears.

Bill.

Good post mate. Probably were down the holes sh*tting themselves if the foxes were on the hunt. Its the time of year I think aswell mate I'm having real lack of rabbit on my permission, having to hunt feather for a bit. Wait until the summer mate put in that many hours and you will have a whopper bag I'm sure plus less cold hands!

All the Best

Jack

We had a lamping session like that the other night, a lot of rabbits out on the first sweep with the lamp, then doubling back there was a Badger or Fox waiting in the back ground for the guts on every feild we did, it was like they were following us :D

Cheer's chap's.

I did enjoy it just the same, even with nothing to show for the effort.

I forgot to mention, that when I made the decison to pack up, I had a few shot's at my marker's just for the hell of it :D

I have made the markers using pool noodles, what the kid's use for swimming support.

I have cut 2" thick segment's and pushed 12" length's of bamboo into them, look's like a row of lolly pop's in the field :D but being yellow they show up well, and work a treat.

Hi Lex.

Well.....cant say he did, and cant say he did'nt.

Shooting foxes with a 12ftlb rifle I think is irresponsible, and can not guarentee a humane kill.

It show's little regard or respect for the quarry

FAC 25/30 ftld at that range maybe, but not something I would do personaly.

Rim fire or shot gun I'd say mate.

By the way....this is only my oppinion :)
