Had an accident whilst out shooting

Recommended Posts

I don't really wan't to go into to much detail but my dog picked up a few pellets in his paw and leg. A badly wounded rabbit had run down a slope and escaped into a hedge. I couldn't get to it so I could either leave it or end its suffering there and then. There was no way I oculd retrive it as the slope was too sharp and the hedge too thick, plus it was p-ing it down. I decided to re-shoot it, but unkowningly my spaniel had somehow got down there and gone round the back of the hedge. His working days are now sadly over, but he's still a much loved and cherished family pet.

Just be safe for gods sake! I wouldn't want anyone to go through that.

so another good reason to NOT shoot unless you can be 100% sure of whats behind

Yes pal, exactly! I should have known better. I should have just left the bloody rabbit to be honest. It was just a lapse of safety on my behalf. He had ran down the back of the bank and behind the hedge. He was hit in the paw, shoulder and leg. No bones were broken and some of the shot had bounced of him. It was about 15 yards range. It should never have happened but it could have been a lot worse.

well mate to be fair at least you came on here and opened up to an accident that we all know was preventable,im sure you must feel like shit and this re-enforces the safety aspects of shooting at all times,as you said could have been a lot worse, dont spend the rest of your times beating yourself up about it,we all live and learn atvb to you rob
