new years eve dig

Recommended Posts

went out yesterday with the keeper as a few to many foxes have been seen on shoot days spoiling drives and making birds flush at the wrong time and all at once, not to mention having a few for breakfast lunch and tea. so with a bit of hard weather it was decided to check the earths to see if we could get a bolt to the gun. as we walked up through the wood to check the first earth it was stinking of fox everywhere so we was optimistic that there was one in the area to be found. The earth is by no means small but up until yet the digging has been kind to us never going any more than 1.4 - 1.6 on the b&f it looked completely dead as i checked the numerous entrances i wasnt expecting charlie to be home loosed my old dog anyway and he flew in. keeper on the ready with the gun i had a cuppa and then switched the box on found the dog at 1.1 and i could here him digging on and giving a bit of tongue. lef him a bit as i knew it must be tight and he wasnt quite with it. with the dog not to far i decided to get down to see how tight it was. as i was about a foot away they had moved which i was expecting to be honest, left him for a bit again for them to settle and located him at 2.4-2.7 bit of banging down below makes the signal bounce a bit had a listen and it was clear to us that he was well with the fox now and in a good stop end. the dig was started and to be fair the going wasnt to bad until we hit a bit of sandstone on the last foot and half. the dog has been in the ground 2 hours forty five by the time we broke through the fox was humanley despatched with the gun and we then filled in we called it a day as it was new years eve and i was thirsty lol. a good dig to end the year with and a happy keeper good crack was had whilst digging with usual piss take like i cant hear much has he gone to sleep down there lol or it best not be a rabbit, you can guess the replies lol. all the best for the new year and happy hunting.
