thinking about getting a harris

hello guys , im thinking on getting a harris but before i go jumping into things what things should i consider about them an does anyone no any good course or anything that i could go on to learn about falconary or even a good website where i can read about the sport an these magnifecent bird.

hello mate, you need to try and get yourself a mentor to show you the ropes , go to your nearest falconry centre see what you think. cheers mick

Spend from now till next season reading books talking to and hunting with experienced hawk hunters, build mews gather all equipment needed for the hawk, secure your own land then consider if you really have the free time it takes to keep,train,fly,hunt a bird of your own. but goodluck

Same advice as last too posts but think hard about the comitment as there are already too many harrises for sale.

i agree with every one there i used to work in a falconry center and i lost count of people ring up trying to sell hawks because they did have not have time or money etc

Totally agree with all the above comments mate,its a big commitment,you should try to get as much experience as you can,if you dont know anyone close to you to take you out,then go on a course and read, watch dvds ect as much as possible,put the work in mate its worth it,an hats off to you mate for not jumping in feet first as some do,and then either losing or killing the bird,too many idiots with little or no knowledge get their hands on birds these days im afraid,good luck with it mate and keep us updated on how its going CHARLIE CALLER

thanks for all the help i am going to go down to the nearest raptor center to see if i can get a valetary job there and i am goin to be trying to get on as many courses as i can thanks anthonytomo

Try and get a day out hunting aswell as I have heard the courses arent brilliant. Just dont rush in to it, I have been there and sometimes it tested my nerves. ATB liftboy
