Kay 3,709
I have seen a canon lens & it sayes this, what does it mean though & will it go on a 1000d body before i get to excited The compact and affordable EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS offers powerful telephoto performance. Its 4-stop Image Stabilizer with automatic panning detection effectively suppresses blur in low light. This telephoto zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining compactness and lightness, in response to demands of photographers. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses), and the image stabilizer effect equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. This EF-S telephoto lens with great features delivers excellent performance at an affordable price for all photographers.

[1]=yes[2]=1.6 crop facter..[3]means with image stabilizer switched on [1/15th] you will get the same pic as if you had more light [ie] 1/250th image stabilizer switched off.hope you understand that ..it gets a little confusing.if you can afford it image stabilizer is well worth it..if you use a tripod some of canon lenses dont reconise it..check out ebay.. say canon 300mm with/without is and see price differance. dannyboi 10
Go for it Kay.With both hands. The quality,is as good as the more expensive 18/200 IS.tHE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE BUILD.nOT THE GLASS.bOTH LENSES USE THE NEW IMAGE STABILISING TECKNOWLEDGY.tHE BUILD IS OF PLASTIC'S.wHEREAS,THE 18/200,IS A METAL CONSTRUCTION.wITH METAL RINGS.The 55/200,has the same glass, and same IS.But hasnt the same wear,n tear.Looked after, and in carefull hands. It will last as long as you or me.The difference in quality, will be enormous.Especialy at this time of year. When we dont have the light we need, for good action shots.I cant understand, why this wee lens is so cheap.Ive seen handheld Macro shots from this lens, and they are as good as im getting, from my 70/200 f4,L lens. This is bilyboy,by the way. ghillies 209
as far as i read it the image staboliser's 4 stop thing means if its getting dark and the shutter speed/apature makes the pictures blurr, its 4 stop advantage means you get a bit more time towards too dark to take pictures because the anti shake stops the blurr letting you use slower shutter speeds (or 4 stops of apature), but it's usualy only 3 or 2 in reality...
