s410 vs cat.

Recommended Posts

Before you think the worst, no i didnt shoot a cat with my s410!

Happened to be near one of my permissions this evening, just before it was getting dark, so i thought id pop in and see if any bunnys were around. Its been quite quiet recently there, although loads of signs of bunnys still active, incl a massive new warren id noticed. I think the bunnys are only coming out when dark now, so i`ll have to dig my lamp out and have a go soon.

Anyhow, i jump over the gate and at the moment the land owner has let their horse have free run of the fields, so its quite hard to spot the odd bunny when there is horse sh!t everywhere. But, i notice one bunny about 80 yards away, about 20 yards from the big warren.

So i start sneaking up the left hand woodrow/hedge slowly. I notice a black cat also sneaking up the hedge on the other side of the field. Field is about 45 yards wide. Hmmm.. i think, will i get within shooting range of this bunny before the cat does!

So, it becomes a duel, the challange has been thrown. Me & my s410 vs this cat.

I get within about 45 yards of the rabbit, my gun is zerod for 30/35yards, and i notice this cat is already on the move.

Its now or never, so i drop to a sitting position (i cant shoot accurately at that range standing up to save my life), aim slightly above bunnys head and am about to pull the trigger when he legs it. He must have seen the cat. He runs straight towards the warren closely followed by the cat! argh!

So, chance blown, i wander over to the warren.

Next thing i know, im standing 5 ft from the warren and another bunny bolts straight out the warren, through my legs and leggs it down the field!!!!! I couldnt believe it. He was running like mad all the way down this field. God knows where to, as there are no burrows where he was heading. Sods law, i kicked myself, if i had had the .410 hushpower i could have blew him away there & then. As it was, i had to watch him running like linford christie all the way down this field. :(

I can only assume the cat was in the hedgerow and had spooked him. Icant think why else the bunny wouldnt just jump down the warren and hide there.

To make matters worse, i glanced over the hedge into the next field and sods law, a bunny was sitting there, but saw me and jumped into the bushes. Again, had i had the shotgun i could have got him straight away.

Oh well! sods law. Next time, if i took the shotgun out, you may depend id need the s410 to get the sniper shots in.

Was a bit disapointing, as especially the last couple of times ive had no luck, but ive also had loads of bunnys out of this permission already, so you learn to take the rough with the smooth.

As a side note, this land owner has had complaints. Not about me, but about local cats, catching baby rabbits then carrying them through the local housing estate and through peoples back gardens. The baby bunnies are still alive and crying their eyes out as the cat drags them along. Much to the distress of the local residents.

Laughed my ass off :clapper:

Linford Christie Bunny :clapper:

I have a couple of moggies that hang around the Cemy now and again. I was watching this big black Tom meandering over my verbal permission a week or two back.

It had been sat on the hay that the nags were munching away on and it jumped down onto the little Shetlands back then onto the ground.

I stood and watched from the back of the cemy as it made its way over towards the fence where a rather large bunny was sat (out of my range!)

Old bug's sat up on his hind legs, ears up and the moggy froze instantly. So I'm thinking the little b'stard is gonna have a go at old bugs, how wrong! Once bugs returns to munching grass, moggy resumes its trek across the paddock. Bugs again sits bolt upright and the moggy takes a 90 degree turn to his left and heads straight towards the cemy.

I'm thinking "you fecking coward, I was hoping to see old bugs take a chunk or two out of you!"

Anyway's, Moggies heading towards my direction and about 40 yards from me a bunny bolts from a large clump of grass and weed; litterally inches in front of this big black moggy.

Neither I nor the moggy had seen the bunny and it made me jump, well no I tell a lie; actually it was seeing this big black Tom cat jump a good 4 or 5 feet in the air with its tail fluffed up and its back arched, legs straight as an arrow letting out this HOWLING blood curdling screach that made me jump.

I nearly wet myself with laughter. :clapper:

The other moggy that wanders around the cemy just dont bother with the bunnies and they dont seem to fussed about her being around either.

Well, just spoke to the land owner this evening, and they said that about 10mins after i left they saw the cat dragging this massive rabbit behind him past the farm house. Apparently the rabbit was the same size as the cat.

Sods law eh? Looks like the cat won!

Had a similar thing myself last week. I shot a squirrel at one of my permissions and thought i would pick it up on the way back, anyway by the time i had made it back that way one of the landowners cats was tucking in to my squizzer with another 3 of the buggers watching and waiting for thier turn.
