BellySlater 15
I've had a few strolls around my new permission and i'm starting to learn a few "traits"..... where the rabbits are feeding at certain times of the day (see below ), where the squizzers hang out and the flight lines for the woodies. Had a couple of hours free this evening so tucked the HW100 into the boot, filled the flask and headed off. I'm really enjoying these dark evenings, totally different to a couple of months ago..the fields come alive at about 4.00 as the sun gets low. Could just do with some heavy frosts to get rid of the nettles and thistles Sat under a big old Oak for a while waiting for the pigeons to come in, five or six landed but they f****d off when I blinked an eye :bye: ( I find woodies really frustrating / difficult !) Watched a few Roe and Munties stroll past and waited for the rabbits........ One popped out of the hedgerow, quite a decent size but it was a good 60 yards away, to far for an accurate shot so I just sat there watching him in my scope Then there was a little movement in the bottom of the viewfinder, I dropped the rifle down a couple of inches and there was dinner. Squeezed the trigger and dropped him, not even a twitch. Needless to say his mate at 60 yards legged it. Paced out the shot at 39 strides and was well chuffed. Text book shot, just below the ear. When I picked him up a "plug" covered in blood fell from the ear. It was about the size of a 50pence piece any idea what this is ? (..the brain ?) Anyway, bunny is now in the freezer and i'm well pleased. Managed to get a tree rat on the way back to the car as a little bonus. Just need to work on the woodies Cheers, Belly Edited November 9, 2009 by BellySlater Quote Link to post

davyt63 1,845
hi buddy i find pigeons a bit tricky too, to shoot as i mainly shoot bunnys. but here is a tip if your sitting in wait for them, then let them settle and once there head sinks in to its body, but still visible.then this is when they are most relaxed, then THWACK! them,i got 2 over the week end as i had spike25blue down, and i was teaching him how to shoot them lol regards davy Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
Good shooting. A new permission is always good fun, as very often you can get quite a few kills quickly because the rabbits / birds arnt expecting it! I remember when i first went on one of my permissions, i could practically walk up to within 20 yards of rabbits and they wouldnt even look up! Now they seem to have 6th sense and its quite a challange getting within 45 yards of them before they get spooked! Pigeons can be a pain. They are very nervous sometimes and fly at the slightest thing. If you can find a sitting tree then thats good. There is one tree behind my GF`s house which usually has half a dozen pigeons sitting in it at any one time. All easy targets. Unfortunately due to the location of the tree I cant get any safe shots at it, so they seem to know that they are safe there! Quote Link to post
