skycat 6,174
Well, it could have been worse: 2 young Saluki types out ferreting together: in fact they worked very well together, both marked well and we were really lucky to get a couple of free running rabbits as well: not usual for us: guess the gales blew a couple of nets off LOL Reem did gaze wistfully over the open fields from time to time, no doubt hoping to see a big rabbit out there, but no such luck. We even took a short cut over a huge rape field in the hope of finding one, but they are off this land at the moment: wind in the wrong direction. Reem's camo colouring blended well with A's jacket and the woodland strip: I love that brindle colouring. Honey is coming on really well ferreting, marking well and being unbeliveably steady considering what a prat she is generally. She never stopped hunting for scent and found a couple of rabbits on top: daft things that ran the length of a long hedge before spinning and heading straight back to us: crap photos but one shows how she was reading the rabbit's intentions with maturity and sense: caught in the hedge bottom before having to wrestle it away from the Reemster to bring back to me. He's a sod for doing that, and nicked the first one she caught off her, did a lap of honour before grudgingly bringing it in: OK, not quite to hand, but a yard away, which wasn't too bad for him considering Hunni was stood next to me. On his own he is a good retriever, but like so many Saluki types, really possessive. Hunni must have said something serious to him as he stood off and let her bring her second one to me through the hedge: She's a possessive type too so with a bit of luck they will end up honouring eachother's catches. I know, I should take them separately, but there's not enough hours in the day, nor energy on my part. Ended up with 5 rabbits: only found out recently that the farmer had gassed the rabbits last spring: we're lucky to have any left at all at that rate! I'm well pleased with the Hun: a bit bigger than I'd have liked at 26", but she should have what it takes for the bigger bunnies too: hopefully. Quote Link to post
