comanche 3,298
dose anyone know if you can get a mk1 deban box serviced as i went out today and mine played up even with new batterys in collar and box Don't know if this will work but before you do anything else ,carefully take the circuit board out of the box and wipe it over with white spirit ,meths ( I use nail varnish remover because I'm a transvestite ) or a similar solvent to remove verdi-gris . Get right behind the speaker with a piece of tissue or cotton -bud and blow the dust off the speaker . Also make sure the little copper electrode in the collar is'nt covered in dull greeny corrosion. A bit of scratching with a blade or sand -paper will help (I use emery board ) Don't overtighten the battery-cap or you'll dent the bottom of the battery and get a crap connection . In fact I'd check the collar for poor or dirty connections before doing anything else . Good luck Edited October 10, 2009 by comanche Quote Link to post
Quixote 9
I've got two Mk1's myself. I seldom use them to be honest, but I was told today that they need calibrated every few years? I've had the lid off mine, & the IC chips have had the ID marks scraped off them, so this gives you an idea as to how jealous Deben are of their market Now! This is only an observation & I haven't yet tried it myself, but I've noticed that there's only two components you can mess about with on the board. If you take the top off, you'll see the receiver core to the right? Bottom left on the board, & top left of the core you'll see two variable resistors.....................they're the only components on the board that can be adjusted, & they have a plastic core that you can get a jewellers screwdriver into. If you can be arsed, mark their original position (so you can return them back to their original positions) & turn each core a tiny amount in each direction (one at a time so you can quantify what effect it has)....................... I'm going to have a go at mine tomorrow, so you won't lose anything by having a look at what's under the lid Quote Link to post
