Cold Ethyl 63 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Share Posted October 9, 2009 Sorry but please dont force the dog unless its the last option try the easier ways first you want your dog to do it because it wants to please you.Not because it has to.The dog will respect you far more if you dont force the issue keep the harsh stuff for the really serious things in the dogs life.Plus by forcing it you may put it off forever.Try what i suggested and you will be surprised even if it aint perfect its breeding tells me its quite a smart dog.The salukis take longer to pick things up and mature my males only just started bringing thins back as asked and he was 2 years old in June.My bitch is a natural at it but shes been taught since weeks old by the guy i got her off and likes to please me so does as i ask most of the time. James Doyle 59 Posted January 11, 2010 Report Share Posted January 11, 2010 lovely looking dog there mate i have a lurcher here nearly a year old now when i got him he was about 6 1/2 months old and i brought him off down the field to train him using an old heavy grey sock when he got better at it i used a rabbit skin dummy and now he is grand on the retrieve when hr did bring it back i gave him a bit of ham or sausage meat and he got more eager and eager everytime but after a while start cutting down on treats if not he will only retrieve when you give him something Hope this helps atb JD Quote Link to post Share on other sites
