Stop Nets

just after some info on stop nets

 

what's the average size people use??

 

Length and width if you can please

By stopnets do you mean as in going through hedges? I've a couple of 12yds stopnets that have been put to good use through hedges either side of sets saves a lot of time scrambling about trying to put purse nets down

They sound like a small long net or even a gate net....

Depends what you are using them for? in what situation, and what kind of game?

to all intents and purposes they're identical to short longnets in style and working, rabbits down here bolt and run along under the hedges hence running a stopnet through the hedge either end of a set to catch them

I have about 6 of these nets and they are worth there wieght in gold. As leeview i make my own and i always put 21/2yds of netting to one yd of net in these nets. so a 12 yard net has 30 yds of netting. I've had six rabbits in a net at the same time, plus if the net gets snagged on the hedge there is always enough bagging to kill a rabbit... I don't bother with a salvage line though i just use the sheet netting with the double knitted top and bottom line in 6z 54mm mesh.. Just out of interest Leeview do you use these nets as quick set or traditional?? i use them as traditional as i find it much easier getting them through the hedgeline without having to trim the hedges everytime

I use both traditional and quickset whichever suits the situation, as for the selvage line? surely that is the double knitted mesh on the top and bottom of the net?

I use 2 x 12yrd quick set stop nets which i made, i have them in 10Z so they dont snag so easy going through hedges. The only downside is 10Z does not ball the rabbits up as well.

when you rig them in traditional fashion do you use a small set of end pins due to the little amont of net?

 

on a tangent, does anyone have a link on a tutorial of how to tie sheet netting onto purse net rings?

I use the regular sized end pins as the mesh is the same size on both nets

as for your second question I've never used sheet netting so cant help you there

cheers for the reply leeview, it is just my endpins are currently 5 diameter ring so are quite bulky especially if i used them for 12yrd stop nets
