Mitch 0
Hey guys, I have been snaring a few bunnies recently but i have checked my snares on a couple of occasions to find my brass wire missing, but the peg and tealer where laying there. Could it be the rabbits busting my knot off? its strange because I have caught a few rabbits without the knot busting off?, anyone got any ideas. Quote Link to post
woodga 170
your catching foxes around the foot and they are biting through the snare sometimes a lenght of wire is left with the knot pulled under the eyeand the wire snipped off i would say its foxes working your wires good hunting all woodga  Quote Link to post

MR TEA POT 1,287
hi mitch i had the same thing happen to me a few times,so i pm woodga and he said that a fox was working my snare line,so i moved them and they were fine till the fox found them again :realmad: . Quote Link to post
maty j 6
what about if the noose is closed up really small, sometimes has a bit of fur in them. i was thinking its just a rabbit in them but got out but the noose is smaller than a 5 pence in size with just the fur caught sometimes and sometimes nothing. think you need to do some fox snaring mitch Quote Link to post
woodga 170
your snare was set to low as the rabbit lifted for its jump its chest hit the wire folding it flat as it passed over the loop its back foot caught the loop pulling it closed around its foot and the rabbit escaped leaving a tell tale bit of fur in the wire set you snare higher next time to avoid this GOOD HUNTING ALL WOODGA  Edited August 20, 2006 by woodga Quote Link to post
maty j 6
cheers woodga, i knew you would know there down at the moment as theres calves and sheep back in the feild but next time we set them ill lift them up a bit. we've had about 20 or so from this 1 feild by a railway line but theres still another 40 left. we tried lamping with the air rifle but im a shit shot and is better suited to running a dog as there a touch lamp shy. ill set them a bit higher when we put them back out again. cheers mate, Quote Link to post
john b 38
I was going to start another thread this morning but might as well bang it on here. I had 25 wires out last night 10 fence wires and 15 peg/tealer - and caught nothing There are cattle in the field so I have to put all of then round the fence line - some of the rail fence itself and others on tealers in the hedge. Any advice on the fence set ? It's a rail fence so I've put them like this I know that there's traffic here because were a couple that had been pushed aside The others didn't seem to have had a touch Still - atleast I got to stalk a few when I went to clear up Quote Link to post
Vermin Dropper 2
John, I'd say the snare in the first pic is a bit low mate, lift it up to overlap the rail so that you can keep your loop size, Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
I'd agree with VD (most unfortunate abbrieviation on the entire site, surely? ) completley, John. I Love a bit of fence wiring for bun's and Always set high there. I don't know what Woodga would say about it, but I always figure, when the space is a bit limited, he'll pass under as high as he reasonably can. He'll want to feel his ears touch that fence. Why should he go any lower? Also, that run with the stick; My guess is that that hop over will slow him too. And slower rabbits seem to have their heads up. Present him with 3/4 of the loop below the fence is what I'd do. And I reckon I'd have the bugger. Usually have when I've done it that way Quote Link to post
