setting a purse net

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to ferretting with purse nets I usually bolt the rabbits and hit them with the Hawk but thought I might try purse netting to increase body count as the Hawk only catches one rabbit at a time and can get any that bolt from holes I have missed.

I took the net and pinned it through the steel ring to the earth above the hole then spread the net over the hole stuck the ferrets down the holes and a rabbit bolted out of the netted hole but failed to get caught up in the purse net

What did I do wrong ?

you dont pin them through the ring mate you tie the 2 enda to the peg have a look at soom pics on here if you put it in the ring the net can not close

Nice wee clip but you cant go wrong put the bottom of the net as far down the hole as you can open up the top to cover the hole and put the peg as far back as you can so the drawcords tight before the rabbit hits the net

Ha Ha I wonder how long it takes him to set 100 nets glove and all.And you don't need a peg both ends.Go out with someone who knows what their doing.Like the yellow nets no chance of leaving them behind. :clapper:

I suppose the glove stops all the shit getting under your nails, but taking it on and off all the time would become a chore imo.

Magwich and I use the long stop nets more than purse nets these days ,but when I set a purse net I put the peg in first. doesnt make any difference really. The yellow nets are a good idea , as the rabbit can't tell the difference ,and they are easier to spot and ,as you pointed out harder to miss and leave behind.

The guy who asked for advice was honest about his lack of knowledge ,and it was nice to see him get some constructive advice instead of having someone take the piss ,as too often happens ,we all had to start from scratch at some point.
