DDD 4
Went out a couple of nights ago & got a couple of rabbits. Put one in with the ferrets to get them ready for work. Unbelievably the Mrs said that the ferrets had the rabbits head up in their bedding box , thinking she was talking sh1te, I had a check tonight. Well, I didn't find a rabbits head in the box.............I found half a rabbits head :icon_eek: When I say half I mean the top half - ears, eyes, top of skull basically. The little buggers had dissected the rabbits head from its body, almost surgically. Never cease to amaze me these little buggers Quote Link to post
Fat-Ferret 857
Mines strip the skull completely, I usually find ears and a skull minus a brain and eyes in the next box. Quote Link to post

rosspti 2
I gave 2 my hob youngsters their first whole rabbit on Wednesday night. They've been on Alpha biscuits up until then, but with a couple of diced rabbit and pheasant meals along the way. Put in a whole gutted rabbit. I left the skin on, but loosened it around the body so that they could get their teeth into it a bit. Instinctively they went straight for the jugular and tried to kill it again. I love it how they just "know". Next morning they had eaten the meaty back legs, skinned and removed a front foot, taken the eyes, chewed through the cheeks and eaten the brain. Basically they had gone for the soft bits. I noticed that their s**t had reduced to about 1/2 inch and looked quite hard so I guess the change in diet may have bound them up a bit? Anyway I gave them a few biscuits just to make sure that their diet didn't change too quickly and upset them. I also took the skin off what was left just to teach them that there is more to rabbit than what they had eaten. Funny tho, after one night with a bunny they seemed super-turbo-charged that Thursday morning. When I was in the shower this morning I could hear them banging about from the other end of the garden. I went out to see how they had got on with the skinned rabbit - and they had pretty ragged it. I will perhaps give them a few buscuits again tonight - but I want them to persevere with this rabbit for another day or two before I bin it. If I go ferreting on Sunday (not with these two - another month yet before I try them) I will bring home another one on Sunday and replace it. Keeping an eye out for blow flies but haven't seen any signs yet. I plan to keep them on rabbit (or any game that gets a little too much lead) with occasional biscuits throughout the winter - and then back on biscuits with occasional meat in the summer. Is it worth giving them raw egg now and then in a dish to lap up? ATB Quote Link to post
