how to fight the hunting act 2003

Recommended Posts

in a recent topic regarding pre ban deer hunting, the subject on fighting the ban came up, :gunsmilie:

and i think we could come up with some ideas as to how to get the antis onto our side, as the league against cruel sports (i think thats what its called) are who made the ban come about, which all leads to poor education about the countryside,, so this is what i've come up with . . :whistling:

i'd say we vote for the government party whose planning on reversing the hunting act of 2003, not to brag or drop ourselves or others in trouble in public, be it this site, facebook, or even the local bus stop, but talk in a down to earth honest way, about how we work our dogs, remember the ban was only put into place due to misunderstandings and there being such a diversion between country and town folk,,talking as a woman from north london who now LOVES countryside pursuits it can be difficult for family etc to agree or accept what your doing, bring a sister out ferreting, a friend out lamping -legal of course!! so they can go home saying they went out the dog worked beautifully and we had rabbit stew for free!! its all about educating people, how can we expect anyone to agree with what we are doing when they know nothing about it!!

a few months ago, i had a plumber come round to my house who was an anti, not the mouthy dangerous type just that it was against his opinions,, he walked into my house to see photos of hounds, eagle owl, lurchers with rabbits by their side, deer antlers as decerations and was stunned to say the least, i introduced him to me ferrets who were sweet and lovely with him, to my dogs who were calm and well mannered and explained about how i work my dogs and the negative the ban has had on wildlife ie gassing shooting is more cruel in my eyes then running the dogs, i lent him a couple of me books so he could have an educated read away from the media and he came back, not for hunting but certainly not against it, and though he explained that hunting isn't something he'd do, he could see how the ban was pointless . .

continue hunting, advertise what we do in a good light, keep our manners in check, be polite and try to educate idiots who are against us, -the saying if you can't beat them join them, let antis see what we really do instead of them seeing a dog panting out of breath with blood all over its face and an animal pulled to bits, let them see true working dog people, where we feed the dogs better then ourselves, they are built up to peak fitness and we are very attached to our dogs, end of the day what can any anti say against that! :big_boss:

you've misunderstood wat i meant -sorry my english isn't the best . .

what i mean is if we educate the city folk that way they'll develope their own opinion on hunting rather then college teens being targeted in cities by the anties with pics if lurchers covered in blood and rabbits torn to bits, we all know real lurcher people aren't like that, so say we were to educate in schools ect then there would be less people becoming anti's in the first place

You are wasting your time.As in working class areas were i live its still believed to be the pastime of the upperclasses [fox hunting] and theirs only one political party thats spoke out about it being being an unjust law on an age old tradition. That is the B.N.P wich sees the ritual slaughter of animals a dam sight more barbaric than hunting.

the conservative have said about reversing the ban also
The conservatives would never in a million years get in parts of s.yorks and while we have got silly labour politicians from this area who are totally against hunting but are willing to make sheffield&rotherham the immagration capitol of the uk.We have no other choice.atb dell

i know things look bleak, i'm looking for ways to try and find change, i can't help thinking if we were educated people about the countryside that they would understand and there would be less anti's around, maybe its the irish blood in me too stubbern for me own good but i can't sit back and let them ban hunting in ireland if they ban it there it feels like they've won . .

That depends on if it goes to a palimentry vote and if we are fortunate to have either ukip or B.N.P representing our areas their votes will go to overturn the ban.

it does my head in city folk city folk , more terrier lurcher owners in the major citys than the so called country side , education , listern if in 1976 at the waterloo cup we should have kicked the living day lights out of the fooookers then , we lost because they were better at gaining support they got the labour party to make it a class thing , next time they knock on your door ask them what is there stance on field sports they have stole part of are cultue and we let them  Edited by gonetoearth

Although I now live in the US we have plenty of antis and PETA types here. i always go out of my way to educate people about my dogs and falcons. remember the impression you make on someone reflects on all hunters, so mouthing off tars us all with the same brush. It is far better to polite and reasonable, if the person wants to make a fool out of themselves so be it but dont sink to their level. They will with luck make their opinions look stupid to others present while you come across as the reasonable one.

I consider it a duty to my sport to be an ambassador for hunting at all times, it costs nothing, wins minds and might just help protect your sport. I hang out with liberal arty farty types all the time and have won many over, they like me and as the only hunter they know they think better of all hunters because of me.

Yes some clueless idiots piss me off and that includes some hunters by the way! But knowing your facts and being polite will achieve more than telling someone to F**k Off.

education of the young is the way to go the antis go to primary schools to pedal there biased sh*t we need to educate the kids so they grow up informed and capable of making there own decisions. i take my four year old nephew out whilst exercising the dogs he loves it, will take him on a hunt in due course. we need to fight the anti propaganda machines with one of our own.

hmm interesting replies . .

and i agree that its us to us to give the incorrect impression, think about how many videos there are made the legue against whatever they call themselves, all over you tube there are videos touching tom dick and harry everyday, so town folk who have no idea about hunting of any sort, simply due to lack of education and parents trying to protect their kids, hell i went to college and some girls didn't know where beef came from, i can't help thinking that there should be vids made to show ferreting etc in its true form,, so people from all walks of life see how everything goes and that hunting with dogs is the best way to go . .

p.s two flowers in one day! can't be bad :icon_redface:

all the very best Annemarie
