japanese knott weed

i have noticed last few years this weed has took off all over my permission different farms and fields. .it is like a puple pink flower growinng on and the body of plant is like thick green cane . terrible weed..big pest. when i pickd my pup last week from wiltshire it was rife down there side of roads 2..

its everywhere, we unknowingly transplanted some into our garden when we moved in because it looked nice flowers, we got it from a neibour that didnt know what it was, :doh: :doh: took us 2 years to get rid of, it took a shit load of weedkiller and a hell of a lot of digging to get rid of it all.

 

then we gave it to the council in their "green waste" bin at the dump.

does she have railway sleepers in the garden? i think it can come from used sleepers because they used to plant it on railway embankments to keep the soil in place then it just spread like feck.

Saw a programme the other week it had a part about jap knot weed it was costing builders thousands to try to eradicate from new builds sometimes having to dig metres with no guarantee that it wouldnt come back :icon_eek:

Its himalayan balsam your on about mate ...pain in the butt and everywhere ...i think the japanese knotweed is more for wet areas but can't be sure ..thats still a major problem tho

there is alot around the stream that runs around 1 set of permison it seperates like four fields or more the stream does and two be honest that is where it mainley grows around the stream areas.

Around here we find that ragwort is the biggest (and most annoying) pest plant, but it is the only plant that a species of moth caterpillar grow up on, so it's not all bad:

but it can really dominate a field, and take over a fallow field.

isnt ragwort poisinous to deer aswell as horses and cattle?

The Cinnabar moth thats poisonous as well .atvb dell
