possible ferret harness

Recommended Posts

Hello lads, terriers and lurchers is my game but my son wants to get a ferret, so ive been droppin in on your site tryin to learn as much as possible about ferretin. I already have a b+f locator for the terriers and i was wondering do ye think a harness would work if it was made like a mini rucksack to fit a ferret with a compartment on the back to hold the collar transmitter from b+f [or ortovox]. I know on a big ferret in rat burrows it would be too tight but it should work in rabbit warrens. Look forward to any opinions. Burrowman. p.s. i have sent a p.m. to strong stuff.

the bellman collar is too big really (unless your after hunting those red rabbits) unless you could miniturise the collar it would hamper the ferrets movement in smaller tunnels...

Shame really though, the pieps locator is a cracking piece of kit, far better than deben's sh!te offerring!

Not seen a B&F but how big is the gizmo thats on the collar you use ? cant it just be added to a ferret sized collar or is it a fair sized transmiter

I'm half thinking this is a joke .......... I did answer the question on the other thread.

No mate, I won't be making any ferret rucksacks or harnesses.

Apart from a terrier locator being far too big for a ferret, I haven't got the spare time to waste messing around.

Sorry.

I did ask my mate if I could borrow his collar to see if it could be miniturised (i'm an electrical/tronic engineer) but strangley he wasn't all that fussed about letting me take it to pieces!

I think certainly the battery could be swapped for a smaller unit, but the rest of it i'm not sure - i think the antenna might be the next 'big' problem

Its a shame the transmitter cant be developed so you can inter change onto dog & ferret sized collers

Thanks folks for the replies, the collar transmitter is 80mm x40mm x30mm it weighs 3.5 oz or 100grams. Bryan from ortovox contacted me and reckoned it might be a bit heavy for a ferret but good news they are working on a ferret sized model.B+F dont do a ferret sized system thats why im tryin to adapt mine for ferrets,oh well back to the drawin board. Sorry Strong Stuff i missed your reply, when i checked your topic on damaged collar last night on the terrier forum it was gone, any idea why? a.t.b. burrowman.
