first cross deerhound greyhound

Recommended Posts

if you are looking for a big dog, you certainly, will have one if it is a genuine first cross, I had a couple in the early seventies, they were popular in those days, they are slow to come to themselves, 18 months 2 years old, the SALUKI. x is your dog for coursing, there is nothing to touch them for STAMINA,

AND Lung power, (((( and a big dog is cumbersome, and could be injury prone, enquire around who has had this breed and they will tell you the same storey,

back in the mid 70s i had two pure bred ardkinglas deerhound bitches, they were litter sisters, they were not that good on hares not to bad though, they did catch a few, i also had genuine 3/4 greyhound deerhound longdogs, these were pretty good on a hare, back in them days, not as good though as saluki based crosses are these days though. they were always good for a couple of hares single handed in the winter months though, and exceptional on fox and deer back then when it was legal,

they were like schizophrenic psycopaths,

where they any good on the long ears mate

yes they were handy, they were good looking dogs, but in todays modern dogs, the Saluki,x has the stamina and the most important lung power, were as those big rough dogs would blow up after two or three courses, and needed two or three days rest, yes you will always get one or two, that could take more, but very few, and again when I owned them, in the early 70s very few people had SALUKI, BLOOD, in there dogs,

iv not had a first cross but seen a few work and i got a 1/4 deer 3/4 grey. iv also seen a lot of other crosses work and if its deer you were wanting pre-ban, the deerhound cross is the best for the job, hares they are ok, id say they come second to the saluki, rabbits its been proven time and time again they can catch big bags but if its small fields they struggle. Foxes some will kill them with no bother but the bull cross and wheaton crosses take some beating. they ave a great coat and one of the best feet in the lurcher world, rough ground isn't a problem. they are slow to mature though, they are a joy to be around and will protect you and yours.
