Getting ferrets used to collars?

What do you do yo get your ferrets used to wearing collars do you just put it on the first time you take them out ferreting or do you put a collar on them from time to time when they are young to get them used of wearing one? any information appreciated

I slung my collars on just before I took my kits out in the past, their like dogs, once they know they're going out they just jump into them nearly

i have one gill that will just sit there and try its best to get it off and another gill that just doesent care. not one ferret is the same they all react differently to it but they should get used to it in the end

Thanks lads mine still arent used of me they keep trying to nip but its probably just playfull. mind you one drew blood a few days ago after clamping on. they are only young yet though . Il get them used of the handling yet. secured some more permission today so role on the season.

I suggest you let your ferrets run around the cage or court with collars on it lets them get used to them .If one slips of because you don't know how tight to put it on it will save you a dig.Put them on in the morning and take them off in the evening depending how much practice YOU need, the ferrets soon get used to them. P1

Ive got a couple of leather collars and i use them just pop them on the kitts and put them back in the hutch after a couple of times they stop trying to rub them off and get on with what they where doing ,as theres nothing worse than collaring them up at a burrow and they spend the next 30 minutes trying to rub the collar off in the mouth of the burrow

im not sure about the age for collars but handling is best done after feeding

 

however if you put a collar on a ferret and then feed them by the time they have finished dinner they will have forotten its thier it worked with mine

cat collars work just aswell for getting the ferret used to having something strange round its neck.i use these all the time .they are only cheap and do the job.make sure youre ferrets are finger friendly first though.i normally start using the collars as soon as i fel the ferret is ready for them and its better to get them used sooner rather than later then you can find out what the ferret is like when trying to get the collar on and off
