while i was reading the thread bout minshaws lurchers it told about a dog catching seventy hares and rabbits in one night. this cannot be true can it? is it a myth thats got bigger with time? not calling any one a liar but i would have to see that to believe it,if it is true then its truly amazing. 70 kills, if the dog had a100% kill rate and was out for say seven hours, which is a long night lamping,it would have caught and killed a bunny or hare every six mins!

If youve a half decent dog an most importantly the rabbits to run i think you can get big hauls like this .

a half decent dog! you'd need a fcuking killing machine. to chase catch and kill a rabbit or hare every six mins for seven hours. maybe im not keeping the right dogs or lamping the right ground.

Early season is when you get the biggest bag's. I have seen photographs that simply amaze me. I could go onto a nice little bit of ground i know on the right night late september - providing the conditions were good) and take 50 in a night.

Only one problem, NO BLOODY DOG TO RUN so i will just have to longnet it instead :good:

Hi Andy, I have mentioned the same dog on "smoochers" in the past; My mate and I were visiting my wife who was in the "Princess Mary" hospital, having our daughter, 1977, opposite the Newcastle town moor. The "Hoppings" were on, (June), and in them days loads of pikeys followed the fair around and were allowed on the moor, not any more!! Any way, we decided to see if they had any dogs for sale, they offered us this "stag cross" for £25 , we bid £20 and got it. Turned out to be a cracker!! It broke two front toes during it's working life, and had them "pin fired" and came back just as good, (shouldn't have been running it on the hard ground !!), probably the only time a "gadgi" got a good deal of a p***y!! Haven't got a clue what breeding, but sure looked like a deerhound X, by the way I think that pup, and your young'uns look great, hope they live up to your(high) expectations.

Cheers.

This dog would take 150 + rabbits over a 3 night weekend in Stirling, during the 70's. A decent dog, but there are probably better dogs around who simply do not see the numbers we did then.

Cheers.

good haul you got there, where abouts in stirling was that ? if you dont mind me askin
