Which would you go for

Recommended Posts

You will all be glad to know I'm not going to run a poll on this :D

I may have the opportunity in the very near future to purchase second hand either

  • An Air Arms S200
  • An AGS PCR1

What are the pro's and con's of each?

Haven’t shot the ags but I’ve got the s200 and I’m not to fond of it I don’t get on with the stock and it doesn’t have a safety though it is light and very accurate if you get the ags keep us updated on how it performs :good: atb bedrock

Try ordering one which suits you better mate, or have a go at making one for yourself. You can, if you like the sort, get a one peice type stock for the S200 from quite a few places now, I am led to believe?:)

and it doesn’t have a safety

Not a problem which cannot be overcome - with time and perseverance - my AA S310 also was made without a safety on it, but to me it's not a problem as I am used to my rifle. After all, the safety catch is a mechanical item, and so, should never be trusted to be failsafe. All mechanical things wear through use, and WILL fail at some point - it is inevitable. :(

I feel that if one can behave as if they didn't have a safety catch, then that makes for a shooter with a safer operating procedure/habbit, IMO. :)

though it is light and very accurate

This is very true - I have used them myself and (truth be told) if I didn't already own the S310, the S200 would be a close second choice. I am very seriously thinking about one for my son, as it goes. :)

The above blue text is just my take on it.

Have worked on AGS PCR1s for quite some time now as a main service agent & in all honesty I have found the rifle very realiable & value for money, I call these the Farmers Son's gun as they are cheap & rugged, out of 42 only 4 had major faults due to missuse. They are easy to work on & AGS/Webley have good stock of parts, but like anything that comes from Eastern Block factories don't expect back what you paid for it.

Thank you gentlemen for your input B)

Looks like the AA if it comes up, how much should I be expecting to pay for it?

Thanks for the guide on the AGS 8shot, the price I was offered the 2nd hand AGS was £200, it includes scope (and knowing this guy it will be a good one), bag etc.

I got my HW40 off the same guy and he charged me £50 last year; when others wanted £90+ so I was suprised to hear that they go for £200 new :o

S200 is by far the better gun,

I have had the Ags and it is an accurate but completley unreliable gun- Dont buy it.

Lewis,

What is unreliable about it? what are your experiances with it, failures etc?
