Hi,

Building some kennels. Not done it before, but getting stupid quotes for laying concrete and a bit of block work.

 

Do I lay the concrete and build the block around or do I make the slab thicker and build the block work on top?

 

Or does anyone know anyone to give me a hand in the Essex area, paid of course!

i would build it on top of the slab mate, you would have to do a footing for the blockwork anyway or just shutter it off where the blocks are going and do a thinner skim for the slab (less concrete)

Aye, I'd lay a hefty slab, then build on top, depending on the size. If it's a big old kennel, you might want to dig out proper footings.

It's 4m x2m and a bit. So make a thicker round the edge and thinner on the slab and build on that, OK cool.

I'd put a 4" board around the outside, fill with hardcore, bit of scrap mesh etc, fill it with concrete and scim it level, we have a 24ft concrete garage,heavy wooden apex roof sitting on such a base and all ok
