pins on a dog ones bigger than the other?

Recommended Posts

all i can say as ive seen the skeleton pic of a dog and stii caint to seen to get any answers. ive got a 5/8 3/8 bull cross bitch with is about 14 months old, ive noticed when sees out in front of me walking that one sde of the pelvic pins is bigger and taller than the other, she also has less muscle around the area too. she isnt lame and still runs and courses rabbits with no problem at all, and does come back lame either, is it because she is growing and maturing or is the a problem in her growth, also she does a lot of jumping in the kennel at the bars..... atb tim

It could be congenital, born like it, but if there has been damage to a joint or muscle then swelling will occur. Quite often you think that the ok leg is the one that is damaged as the muscles are more developed to compensate : they have to do more work than the damaged leg so get bigger, even if the dog is not showing lameness.

Get the dog to a good chiropractor or greyhound vet and get the dog checked out.

Sounds very similar to my Beddy Whippet , he has always been light on his back end, and i've just known that something isn't right. Found out this week that he has a curved spine and a wonky pelvis!

Apparently it can happen in the womb when a bitch carries too many/too big puppies . . . . there was 11 in his litter. Anyway the verdict is it will have absolutley no impact on his life, he is shaping up to be a cracking little working dog and has immense speed, he has never been lame.

The chiropractor i saw re alined his pelvis and has given me a few stretches to do in order to strengthen the weaker side.

Get him checked out.

As abovce i'd get it checked out as it's quite possible an injury. But if it's if it's congenital or cronic then it's catching rabbits so it is compensating well so not to much of a prob, just watch for any signs of injury as it gets a little older as a misaligned pevis causes a kink in the spine. I've one leg 1/2 an inch longer than the other which has led to a misaligned and scoliosis but I'll still look to break 40 min 10km and I'm getting on a bit so definatly not the end of running.
