Been trying to learn as much as i can about the fox as i think its good to get to know your quarry. Been on many sites and they all say different. One site will say the wild fox will live for 3 years the next 10 years. Im struggling to find any consistency in anything to do with the fox on the web anybody know a site that dont talk crap. The site below even said its good for farmer to have foxes on there land. Click the link bellow.

the oldest ive know is 5.. but im sure some do live longer and most less. and yes there is some theory to keeping a good fox or two about, i thought that much would be obvious.

I second what Simoman says.... I was given the book 'Running with the fox' when I was young, and it is the best book out there that goes into the life and ways of the fox in great depth, also he studies both town and country foxes from different reigions showing their adaptability etc etc... also has foxes in pens, it really is a great read..

Unfortunately i gave mine away to a lad that was very keen a few years back, otherwise I would have offered it to you.

I was given the book last year and put off reading it for a while as I thought it would be anti crap but once I started reading I had to read the lot, really interesting book imo. Social groups of foxes etc changes the way you look at things.

Buy the book running with the fox by McDonald, or purchase a book by Sean Frain......to burn

McDonalds book is very good. Is it that book that states that the average lifespan of the Fox is 18 months? This is what I was always lead to believe.

I'd have thought more like 8 or 10 years. The average probably is 12-18 months, but this will take into account all those that die of disease/starvation/wounds/killed by other animals, etc. most of which will probably die when cubs.

we had a fox in our country that was hunted by our pack for 6 seasons.it was a bobtail fox and we could not get him.he would never go to ground and always managed his escape.the last time we saw him he looked very old and grey in colour.we presume he died of old age.cleverest charlie ive seen.

To be honest Neil I cant remember its years since I read it. I read somewhere that all the foxes used in McDonalds research were dug by terriermen...........
