Guest Scuba1
Well I was out on Thursday evening with bubbleduck for a bit of lamping on her permission. When I was out with her the last time to help a bit to zero her rifle and give a few tips, we had a stroll over her permission and it looks a bit like a jungle where we had to make our way through nettles like small trees and brambles that would call for a machete. Anyway I made her a shooting stick to help a bit with her hide shooting and gave her a Tesco torch that i had as a left over from my DIY postings on here. So she made herself a bracket to hold the lamp on her scope and we had a go at testing it. We had a date at 8:30 pm and the game was on. Isn’t it funny when you drive to a shoot, how slow one drives to get there having one eye in the ditch to spot some animals. Well I spotted 18 Rabbits on my way up there and never went over 50 mph. After a chat on the car park we fought our way through the brambles and had a look around while it was still light and there were no rabbits to be seen. But we did see a fox not far from where we were standing. After a bit of a walk about, we sat down for a chat and waited for the light to fade. At about 10:30 we went for a round of the permission and there was not one pair of eyes to be seen anywhere absolutely nothing , zip, nada, silch. Even though the ground there looked like a tap dancing group has had a good practice in a mine field, there was not one pair of eyes in the torch light, so we called it a night and left close to midnights. On my way home, as if to add insult to injury, i saw 5 bunnies sitting in the middle of a bloody roundabout, keeping the grass there nice and short and if it had not been for the traffic on that dual carriage way, I would have stopped and fed the buggers some lead. Mind you, even if it was the first time in years that I went home without having fired so much as a shot in anger and nothing for the pot, it was still a nice time spent out in the brambles with bubbleduck. Pembshunter 23
You should have just got up on Bubble Duck and not worried about the rabbits. Quote Link to post

ATB Michael Thanks for the shooting sticks Mike, very nice of you to make them up for me! Those bloody helicopters are a pain in the ass, they're around here every day and range from police, air ambulance, coastguard and some blig black things I can't identify. :realmad: It was pretty wierd not seeing a single rabbit and it was the first time I've ever been lamping so not a good start! The area is exactly like Scuba says, an overgrown jungle of head-height nettles and brambles which I have spent many weeks cutting paths through with just a pair of secateurs. I've managed to make a few hides by burrowing into bushes which are pretty much invisible from above but the magpies have long ago got used to my car turning up and all disappear so I haven't bagged any for a week now and it's getting very boring waiting for hours and seeing nothing at all. ATB Michael I agree and a mandatory .50cal should do nicely. I get them flying over a lot quite low too. Police flew over a feild at the stables other day send all the mares barmy. Quote Link to post
