arveyboy 0
i finally got the rest of my reloading kit today so i'll put up a few pics of the set-up when i get a minute. people who dont like cramped reloading areas will not like this one im guessing small house oh well. anyway obviously i cant wait to get going so i have a couple of questions. small or large primers? with case cleaning and case preparation, is there a set order to do it in. i have a primer pocket cleaner, flash hole uniformer tool, chamfer and deburring tool and lee zip trim to cut cases to size. any suggestions? also does anybody have any good loads i could work on as a starting point with min and max powder measures? quarry will be fox and muntjac mainly. im thinking maybe 87g hp or bt. or maybe something slightly smaller. or do i work up to separate loads? so much to do and cant wait to get started p.s. sorry for all the very newbie questions. are there any good calibre specific reloading manuals about? i have abc's of reloading Edited May 12, 2009 by arveyboy Quote Link to post

SNAP SHOT 194
those loads may shoot well in your rifle rio, but loads should be worked up with care, 2.640" is factory standard for 87g and this should be standard for a novice reloader, not nit picking at you mate, just want the guy to enjoy reloading safely...... the best advice i can give you mate, is learn from some-one with experience, always be safe and know what your doing...... v-max 2
Hello as said you need a large primer i use cci or cci-br & Hodgdon Varget is a great powder for 243. I deprime & i first primer pocket clean I then zip-trim & chamfuer. With the chamfuer tool you only need the lightest of touch as you only want to take off any burrs & put a very light chamfuer internal/external. All my tools is Lee i like his equipment other than a Lyman flash hole tool. i then tumble in a lyman 1200 in corn-cob media i then empty them & make sure flash-hole etc is clear. It is six & two three's as to when you prime your cases for reloading as i bag my cases labeled either neck sized or full-length so i know & any cases with a loose-ish primer pocket i mark with a black marker to bin it but i normally put them to one side for zero check to get rid of them hope this helps. dicehorn 38
the best advice i can give you mate, is learn from some-one with experience, always be safe and know what your doing......Snap. Of all the info given you, this is perhaps the best. Apart from whether to tumble 1st then case prep or the other way round, there is a set sequence to the making of a bullet. If you have the ABC of reloading (Good book) read it through then read it again so that you understand the principles involved - you are an important person in the shooting world - the rest of us want you to be safe. Do you know your rifles twist rate? Some 243 s have a slow twist rate like 1:12 or 1:13 and getting the heavier bullet weight to shoot well can sometimes be impossible as heavy bullet heads suit the faster twists like 1:9 or 10. Having said that 87 gr heads are a good middle of the road compromise if you dont know the twist rate. Quote Link to post
