  5. I have a jill that was put to a hob sometime ago. She is really fat but nothing has happened. Could she still have kits this late in the year. Regards roger Its really hard to tell whats going on with her. She seems to be struggling and is best left on her own. Any thoughts
  6. Hello I'm just trying to work out my new rabbit control prices for the 2007 /2008 season. This is something that is really quite hard to work out. Do you charge buy the head rabbits caught, the number of sets carried out, the number of men on site per day or a week, or a month the list goes on or a one off charge for the season. if you would like to dicuss this then please PM me Regards Roger.
  7. You could use it but hemp is better, Jute tend to rot quickly i know you can get it easily from garden centre sand the like. But i would rather use hemp it easier to knit with in my opinion. Roger. AS for 2 ply soons like it will get broken quickly. If you are going to spend time making nets it might be better to used the old tried and test stuff.... If you do something cheap sods law it will cost you in the long run!!!!!
  8. I think it could be BOTULISM too. Pigeons do go off really quickly so i never feed ferrets them. I know about having to clean out old food from the cages but even i sometime miss the odd bit of meat in the cage. So many cages to look in so you can easily miss a bit. I use a torch to check because it dark in the feeding areas. Regards Roger. Sure that BOTULISM is fast acting with little systems.
  9. Its an age thing. Young ferrets can just potter on the surface of the warren, especially first timers. Regular trips will soom sort this problem. Try starting with smaller sets. And last but not least as Ditch Shitter says, love the name by the way keep noise to a minimum. If you are only using purse nets and the vegitation is still high cut the vegiation back a few days before you go. Have to say if some goes out fereting with me i tell them to not talk until the set is complete or i will tier the a new a**e hole. regard Roger
  10. I have been out it was a complete disaster, i caught 12 rabbits some young some old and some with mynxi. Anyway was packing up to come home when 4x4 crossed over the field and the guy had a bit of a chat about fields sports and all that lot. Unfortunately i and not picked up one of my 50yd longnets at the time of the conversation. Once he had departed i went back to collecting the nets. My dog was going crazy up over the 50 yarder so i went to investigate. A 13th rabbit had been caught with no ferrets down. Bloody thing had only gone and chewed five holes in my net. Guttered. Fortunel
  11. Hello Cookie, That is a very good question. While you are intrested to learn about joining two nets together i am intrested to hear about repairing a hole in a net. So any advice or tips would be a very useful to this thread. Regards Roger.
  12. I have to say it a great idea i use one to catch moles too. Never thought to use it when rabbiting, but i will do know. Seems silly not to have thought of using it before now. I two on the van
  13. I have to say that i have been intrested to see what has come back on this thread. Thanks guys for your imput. Having looked the pictures and thought long and hard about welding which is an art in its own right. I have gone with butchering the rabbit friendly traps. Only two components are any good and i just don't think the chicken wire works for me. So i have made the cages myself and add the bits that i can't make or weld. I think that they are a much better tunnel traps that have two flip lid comparments so that rabbit don't sit at the front door They are really good but jus
  14. We its the same old story of whatever works for you. I have yet to see a purse net catch more than one rabbit at a time. The tunnel traps can be set in well used holes, i have often had three or four rabbits bolt at the same time and it helps aid with catches. They can be set in vegitation to help stop hole hopping and stop ferrets on road side hedges. When you are using a lot of ferrets they hold ferrets so you can pick them up quickly. Its worth having a few when working alone. That is for sure. Down side is that they are bulky and not that handy when you are just mooching.
  15. Wow, they look well made. They look that they took sometime to make. They look as if there is a lot of welding involved in making them. regards Roger.

    Drop Nets

The system is not as expensive as it looks the hand rail poles are not that much. They cut the poles to the lengths that i wanted. I would get a couple of 8ft and a couple of 2ft poles. Then spend sometime making the drop poles. Then buy a couple more. So by the time a had made it the cost was over sometime. What was hard was sourcing the material. Its the same thickness as temperary fencing used on building sites. Its built to last and i would only use this where i could keep an eye on it and it was out of the way. I have had some ideas about linking two 100 yds nets to set off at the sam

No i didn't take any pictures of the 9 rabbits caught in the net at night. They are difficult to get out of the net though because of the two nets used. Will have to take a couple of photos of emeshed rabbits. regards Roger

    Drop Nets

Far play. This system is quite labour intensive and i wouldn't even think about using it unless i was getting paid for it. And only as a last resort if no other methods can be used. The poles are thinker than yours but have found if they are too thin they bend when you knock them in the ground. Down side is they are heavy but they add stability to the system. In a plumb centre they call it hand rail its thinnner than scoffolding pole but only just. P.S will try hanging the bag next time i get the old girl out. regards Roger.

    Drop Nets

Yes there is a considerable outlay but i carry pest control as a job and not just as a hobby. As for getting the poles in the ground i use a step ladder. The number of poles depends on the length of net and tension, but 9 are used usually. Hard heavy work. But it is a solid set up. I don't bother messing with the bag because in a strong wind its all over the shop anyway. This is the net in the down position once the pins have been pulled. Note the pull cord and pins
  21. Hello there Does anybody out there in the UK that is use tunnel traps when ferreting. Are they home made or can you buy them from anywhere. Know about the rabbit friendly ones from foxshot. Are there any other makes that you know of Regards Roger

Here you can see that the pins are more or less at eye level depending on how hard it is to get the poles in the ground. As for leaded line when i drop this drop net its under so much tension that the support poles for the net embed themselves in the ground so the footline is tight to the ground most of the time.

    Drop Nets

[ Heres a picture of my drop net just to give you some ideas of what mine looks like setup at a school Its a 100yd long with a trammel net incorporated into the nylon net. They take time to make but it worth it they catch rabbits well and stop the pins snagging. P.S this is my first attachment. There seems to be few pictures to help people out or give people ideas. You can see the importance of good head and foot lines to hold the net under tension. It helps to stop the wobble and aids when pulling the pins. Regards Roger

    Drop Nets

Hi i use 8ft hand rail poles and the high of the net is based on how far the poles can be knocked into the ground. So do the maths 2ft on the poles for the net 1 to 1 half in the ground. So i guess i am setting mine at 5 to 5 and half foot the pins are usually going at eye level as a guide. Good head and foot lines are imporant when tensioning over distance. They then to cut the wobble in my option. Regards Roger.
